Geez, here we go again. Blame Francona for not starting Drew and Bay in a game that we all acknowledge was basically meaningless? I don't. I assume that if they were both well-rested and there were plenty of other opportunities for them to get rested then he would have used those games to rest them. This was his chance so he took it.

Hell, if I was a professional ball player and I had one more chance to either play a full game against CC I would probably take that chance too.

Laughable.

He could've started one of them and rested the other Monday.

Sorry, I'm not satisfied until we clinch.

And, I don't like handing the Yanks the division. Sure, they are probably going to win it. But I want to see us run them down and make it hard. Then we can rest against the teams that matter less.

I had no problem resting Drew- it was a lefty against Sabathia. Drew is better than Baldelli, but it's reasonable because Baldelli was a righty against Sabathia. But Lowrie and Anderson? I like Lowrie, but throwing him out there against the Yanks after injury? Not sure if that's the way to go. Batters 7 through 9 were like free outs...

1) Drew can hit lefties just fine. If sitting Bay is laughable in your book, so is sitting Drew. But then again all you rely on is either subjective assessment or misleading stats to form your opinions, so I guess you're performing well up to the norm right now.

2) Spare us the effort ********. If you can't win the division and would have to work very very hard to not win the wild card, then you be conservative, rest your players, and focus on October. I don't give a f*** if the Yankees clinch in front of us. Nobody should. How is losing the division by 2 games any more or less important, in the grand scheme of things, than losing it by 7 or wherever we are at the moment? Shelf the fanboy crap.

You guys suck.

The best part about it is...not only can we clinch at home, against the Sox tomorrow...but after going 0-8 against the Red Sox, we'd end the season series tied.

Pathetic.

The following people care about the Yankees clinching in front of the Red Sox:

1) Obnoxious Yankee fans.

2) Idiot Red Sox fans.

Oh and we're pretty much in the playoffs either way, so jerk it to the season series if you must.

I think this was a big game for the Sox although we lost. Though we didn't win, I'm pretty sure it showed us what Dice-K may very well be through the playoffs, and if we get this from him, god speed rest of the AL.

CC was on today, I don't think we'll ever see him throw that well against us again. Put Bay and Drew in there next time and it may or may not be a different game.

Yankees won = important, crushing defeat for Boston.

Red Sox won = meaningless.

Jacko/Gom 101

Not at all. Meaningless game. Pathetic effort by the Sox. You guys have given up on the season and didn't even come to play.

The only other time CC faced the Sox this year at NYS he pitched just as good as today, if not better.

Today was the best CC can pitch, and he dominated the Sox, no bones about it, but it could have been a different game had our "a" lineup been out there. Though CC was so on that idk if it would have made a difference.

Regardless, the Sox and Yanks will be in the playoffs, and win or lose, it was more important for Dice-K to go out there and show he can win games, and if anyone other than CC was pitching or we faced any other team, we would have done so, IMO.

I have to disagree here. I don't think Matsuzaka was THAT good. He put 11 men on base on 7 innings. He just was fortunate nobody hit him at the right time.

I think it's pretty obvious from 2008 and when he's pitched well and when he hasn't this year that he's at his best when he's pitching the way he did in 2008 he's at his best.

It doesn't matter if he's putting guys on base or not, because he's historically pitched well if he's putting guys on. Evidenced by the fact that he hasn't given up a hit with the bases loaded since Sept 8. 2007. This is just simply how the guy pitches, and if guys getting on base makes him more effective, then s***, load the bases every time.

That's besides the point. My point was he pitched very well against the best offense in the MLB. If he pitches like that vs. anyone else he'll see the same results, if not better.

I've been thinking about this idea for most of the day. I actually think that what people should be excited about from Daisuke is not the playoffs this year, but next year's regular season and the rest of his contract. He seems to be more aggressive and not dicking around as much as he used to. If they can get this type of pitching from a #4 starter we might not be talking about being behind the Yankees at this point of the season next year.

CC--like many true aces--is nearly unhittable when he's on. When he's hitting mid-upper 90's and throwing that slider it is very, very tough. Would be even for the Yankees.

Guys weren't hitting him because he was locating well, changing speeds effectively and challenging hitters when he needed to. It didn't look like luck to me, just some hard nosed pitching from a crafty and talented pitcher.

Next to CC he doesn't look overwhelming, but he reminds me of Mussina for much of his career. Nothing overpowering but good location and a good mix of s***.

When we need home field advantage in game 7 of the ALCs against the Yankees in extra innings (if it goes that much), we won't have it.

We still have a decent chance with our pitching, but without home field advantage, odds are against us. Besides, the Yankees showed us that they can beat us. If they win tomorrow they would have basically won the whole second half. Not a great way going into the playoffs against your rival.

But IMO Drew can barely hit, period. But he is better than Baldelli who has been resting all season. I like Baldelli, but he won't do much coming in cold.

Drew has a .800+ OPS against lefties.

In fact, Drew has a similar OPS against lefties as Baldelli's in nearly twice the AB's.

And for the record, he's third on the team in OPS.

Whats realy going to piss me off is in the playoffs when were facing a lefty and Drew is benched . I can see that totaly hapening . he did it last year in game 2 VS the Rays

I actually stand corrected.

Drew has a BETTER OPS against lefties than Baldelli.

Baldelli OPS vs. lefties: .796

Drew OPS vs. lefties: .819

Of course it will happen.

It's asinine.

Drew needs to play.

I wanted them to play, because if they meet in the ALCS they would have had some recent ABs against him. It's always to the hitters advantage to see more of a pitcher.

Don't usually agree w/ Dan too much, but a good article in the Globe today, it makes sense:

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/09/27/theyre_not_showing_all_their_cards/

What's funny is that he's claiming that Girardi is burning his players. It's pretty stupid of him to write then, when it's clear the only two games he has watched the Yankees play this month are the last two. Girardi has been sitting guys left and right the entire month, as if the Yankees have clinched. The lineup is he threw out there on Wednesday was absolutely ridiculous. It has pissed me off the way Girardi has managed, so it's actually really funny to hear Dan say those things.

What's also kind of funny is that, if you look at the two lineups from yesterday, the Red Sox sat two regulars while the Yankees sat one. Not an enormous difference.

EDIT: And Lowrie, but, offensively, he's not that much different than Gonzalez.
