Find that quote. I'd like to see it.

Now who's antagonizing who, Dipre?

Francona shits the bed sometimes. Not a lot. Sometimes. I agree with Dojji that his mistakes don't occur any more often than any other manager in the game.

We notice them more because we pay more attention to his in-game moves. No other reason.

Again.

Read the post where i say "Francona's good, but he's not as good as Doiji makes him out to be."

As i have stated before, he's a perfect fit for Boston, but he's not as good as rose-colored glasses make it seem.

I think he's a top 5 manager in the AL. I think Dojji would agree, and I think you would as well.

But is he the best manager in the AL?

Doiji sure makes it sound that way, and it's not true, but top 5 in the AL he probably is.

You could make the case he's top 3.

Name three better.

I'd say Scoscia and Leyland. I think he's better than Maddon and Gardenhire.

You can hang me, but i think Gardenhire is better.

He does more with less.

He's also never done a damn thing when it mattered most. He choked away series against the NYY in 2004 and Oakland in 2006.

If the Twins beat the Yanks in 2004, it'd had been an enormous upset.

The difference in talent was enormous.

They won game 1 and had game 2 in their sights.

I don't think that's fair, honestly, the Twins were overmatched.

Kind of like how the Sox were overmatched being down 3-0?

He took Santana out after 5.

I know. And that was probably the wrong move. But it didn't cost them the game. Santana was at 87 pitches when he was removed, pitching on short rest. He might have told Gardenhire he had nothing left, or Gardenhire thought he had nothing left. Regardless, Grant Balfour came in and shut the Yankees down in the sixth and seventh innings. The game was tied in the 8th inning, with Juan Rincon in. Even if he had not taken Santana out after five, and had left him in through either the sixth or seventh inning, Rincon was still going to pitch the eighth. There is no way at 87 pitches through five innings, on three days rest, that Santana was going to pitch the eighth inning, no matter who the manager was.

Leyland gets a lot of ink but his 1 title came in 97 with Miami and that team was stocked with the best available free agents money could buy and they were all in contract years.

In Pittsburgh in the early 90s he almost won the pennant.

he had the best player in the game with Bonds and lacked a closer big time.

anyone who questions how good bonds was should look at the money Andy Van Slyke and Bobby Bonilla made when they left Pitt and how they performed without BB in the lineup afterwards.

Now in Detroit in 2006 they had the best team in the land but somehow someway their pitchers made such critical eras in such critical situations it almost appeared the series was fixed.

When David Epstein hit a 275 foot triple over Curtis Grandersons head I knew the Tigers were cooked.

They let down in that series and since then theyve spent a ton to improve yet I dont see them being a factor in the playoffs unless Verlander is absolutely lights out.

I agree with what I think Mr. Crunchy was trying to say. I think Leyland is a little overrated. The last time he got a team to playoffs they put up one of the worst performances of a heavy favorite in World Series history.

The fact that the Tigers are on the brink of making the playoffs disagrees.

It's a patchwork team. They have a good rotation but both the bullpen and offense are suspect. It takes a good manager to win with a team with so little to work with.

Detroit is a total fluke this year. They've actually allowed more runs than they scored an are somehow getting into the playoffs. They're 12 games over .500 and 13 games over pythag and if there were a single other half decent team in the division they'd be a memory right now.

I'm sure you can blame a bit of that record on Leyland, but you can't blame him for there being no other team in that division worth half a damn.

You can blame a LOT of that on Leyland.

So wait, Francona's the savior of mankind, but you can't give credit where credit is due with Leyland?

Wow.
