JD needs to be up in the order

Seriously. Why? He is producing where he is!

Aside from lead-off, he can do damage anywhere.

Statistically, anyway.

So he should do damage where he gets more PAs. Though right now there's not a clear spot to put him.

Poor as in Manny poor? Are his numbers bad? Serious question' date=' not being a bitch:lol:[/quote']

No, Manny is in another stratosphere. Ellsbury has a -14.6 UZR, and -14 FRAA, meaning an average fielder can be expected to add 0 runs with his defense. Ellsbury is well below average, which is surprising considering his fantastic year in 2008.

I think he can bounce back, but that doesn't discount that when he's playing this poorly, he becomes a liability.

I have an honest question, not trying to stir s*** up, because honestly i'd take a plane to Boston and piggyback Ells to Shea for Beltran.

But what do your eyes tell you about Ellsbury's defense?

I really didn't know that. I agree on some level. I also think that he has been hitting pretty well lately and doing a good job setting the table.

.347 OBP is OK, but he would be better employed down in the order. Stealing bases in front of Alex Gonzalez could be a good way to produce more runs.

I did not make my point clear. I value his presence in the line-up at any time in any slot.

He has not been productive at lead-off this year. He is not alone by any means.

Is that a valid observation? I don't know.

I want him in the line-up swinging for the gaps every night. This team needs him getting on base, and producing runs.

I see a defender who hasn't been getting to balls he should, and has a bad arm.

My eyes are subjective and more prone to error. The statistics might be too, but when there is such a noticeable chance in performance from indicators that are reliable, I tend to go with the objective analysis.

I understand that, i just meant to get an opinion.

And by the way, can anyone on the NESN feed tell me what the answer to the trivia question was?

Kevin Kennedy is Gawd Awful. Just said what a good job Varitek has been doing catching Lester tonight.

Sad...just fk'n sad.....

This is understandable. He is not the best defensive CF by any means. He makes up for his lack of experience with pure athleticism and that can cloud a Sox fan's judgment. But he is young and should develop his skills in the field and at the plate. I'm willing to watch as he refines his ability as long as he contributes. And I don't consider him to be a liability at this point.

He was actually a very good player for the Red Sox last year, even with his poor offensive performance. This is very contingent on his defense, however. I would prefer if the Red Sox brought in a more stable offensive CF, who plays steady defense.

So you don't believe that he can become a Tory Hunter type?

Is the situation dire at this point?

you do realize that a walk there would of been way better than a sac fly right?

wut

A run scored.

Truthfully, I do not remember how many outs there were, etc. But when I made the post, a sac fly seemed like a good thing.

bases loaded with 1 out

a walk is way better than a sac fly in that situation

I don't think Hunter would be a fair comparison, because he gets his value driving the ball out of the park. Kenny Lofton is probably his upside, with Pierre being the downside.
