My sense' date=' like Jacoby's above, [b']is that once the Yankees realized how he could help their team, they were going to bid a lot for him.[/b] I also believe that Teixeira and his wife wanted to be in NY and were more than happy to both sign a huge contract when it was offered.

Not only that, but how much he would have helped us certainly factored into things on their end.

that DP in extras last night really really hurt' date=' he almost always gets a runner in with less than 2 outs and runner on third[/quote']

It goes both ways.

Teams almost always get a run in with the bases loaded and no outs, or 2nd and third and no outs.

If you don't think the Teixeria camp would have returned to the Yankees and given them a chance to top the offer' date=' since its rumored that they have a little bit of money in their bank account, then you are really really thick.[/quote']

Since they weren't involved, they might not have become involved if they saw the 200 million dollar offer by the Red Sox. Seeing how they just overspent for CC and AJ.

3-2 TOR in the 5th.

We'll have to scoreboard watch the Texas games.

Maybe an all-purpose Texas Rangers game thread?

*sigh*

Why did Teixeira meet with them privately then?

Are free agent meetings unheard of enough to the point where its noteworthy here?

As for your question, Teixeira wanted money. He and his agent dug in and wouldn't stand for a cent less than what they could possibly get. This meeting was Tex's way of hopefully softening up the Red Sox by taking Boras out of the equation, for one night.

Just admit it, the FO botched that situation about as bad as they could.

No, but you are botching your assessment of that situation about as bad as you possibly can.

Bright side - it looks like Penny will get through 6+, and will allow them to go to Traber to close it out and keep the pen fresh for tomorrow.

Saying the Yankees would have the last minute chance to match any offer is baseless conjecture, and is an excuse RSN will have to hang their hat on for the next 7.5 years.

So you disagree they dropped the ball? What was their #1 priority this offseason?

What the f***? Who said they weren't involved? The fact that they didn't make nightly offers that SportsCenter presented as breaking news every night doesn't mean they weren't involved. They were holding back and planning on making the winning offer late in the game, in order to either force another team to overpay horribly for Tex (and I stress horribly), or to bring him to the Yankees in the 11th hour and bask in some PR bliss.

Teixeira and Boras are not stupid people. Them and any other big name free agent knows that the Yankees can pay the most money out of any team, if they are truly interested in said big name. They wanted the money, they turned to the Yankees, they got the money. It's that f***ing simple. This isn't difficult to comprehend.

If we keep on playing like this we can't beat the yankees.

I'm hoping the famed rivalry between the NYY and Boston will negate the fact the team is playing not so great right now. After all, we haven't done at all well in the Trop this year, but still beat the NYY so far.

....V-MART! Yes, I like this boy.

Baseless conjecture is assuming you actually know what went down in those negotiations.

And didn't we agree you were gonna STFU about Teixeira?

It's a tired act.

I love how everyone thinks the Yankees would suddenly reach their ceiling at just a few million more... or that Boras wouldn't have had contact with the Yankees, even if it would give him more money.

Teixeira is painted as supremely greedy, someone who would always take the most amount of money possible and then lie about always wanting to have played in NY. Boras, on the other hand, wouldn't possibly turn around and run a final offer past the Yankees before signing with Boston, if John Henry had just offered more money.

The line seems to be "I'm sure that if the Red Sox had just offered him what the Yankees did at their meeting he probably would have taken it."

Look, it's a bummer they didn't get Teixeira. Their team would be better now for having done so. None of us know the reality of what happened behind closed doors, or behind what Teixeira was thinking or secretly wanted.

I didn't bring it up this time. It's called discussion.

The Sox went to Texas because they were the favorites to sign MT. That meeting, for whatever reason, killed their chances.

JWH sending out that pissy email was probably the worst thing he could have done.

Saying Teixeira is lying about always wanting to have played in NY is baseless conjecture too. I keep hearing that he wouldn't take "less money" to play somewhere that he's always wanted to play, but that's totally baseless. I know that it is reasonable for someone to take less money to get to live and work someplace they prefer. Perhaps you will be hanging your hat for 7.5 years on the money argument so you don't have to tolerate the thought that someone would prefer to wear pinstripes and live in NY.

Hey, as long as we're speculating...

This team is gonna have a hard time winning if solo home runs are their only way of scoring

LOL...I was thinking that earlier....

Could you actually be this naive?

Okay, since I want to see what else you could possibly come up with, tell me why Teixeira WOULD NOT have returned to the Yankees after receiving a Boston offer, in the hopes that the Yankees would top the offer. For, you know, maximum money.

Your tainted view of Teixeira's (and probably other free agents, when the time comes) motives is pretty alarming, and humorous.

So you disagree they dropped the ball? What was their #1 priority this offseason?

Their #1 priority was Teixeira, and he became too f***ing expensive. They were also all to aware that the Yankees would top any offer they made, right up until the Tex signing would've been a scourge to the Red Sox no matter what Tex's ultimate production was, though I'm sure that angers you, as it probably telegraphs a lack of effort to those that were cutting themselves all Christmas because the Red Sox wouldn't empty their whole f***ing bank account for one f***ing player.

Just because its not your money doesn't mean that the team has to spend it with idiotic abandon like a 15 year old cheerleader with a stolen credit card. There are limits. Teixeira's price passed Boston's limit. Recognize this, lest you look like a bigger fool on the matter.

That's way too logical to be plausible. :(
