way off topic but i was hoping to get some oppinions on this. That do you think about switching lowell to 1st base and youk to 3rd base next year. lowell still has a nice bat but his defence is well below average at this point. youk is at the very least an averge fielder at 3rd base and he'll ony get better if he plays there every day. this will take youk out of the rotation of sharing playing time at catcher' date=' third, and DH. This will alloy varitek, martinez, ortiz and lowell to all share the time at those 3 positions. keep in mind that i am assuming the sox will pick up martinez's and varitek's options and that lowell is not trades. that do you think?[/quote']

 

That's actually worth a thought. I don't know whether Lowell would stand up any better to the rigors of first than of third, but it's worth at least talking about.

What I would do is this:

 

1B: Martinez/Youk

3B: Youk/Lowell

C: Varitek/Martinez

DH: Ortiz/Lowell

 

Games played around this (forgetting about inbjuries right now)

 

1B: Martinez (100)/Youk (50)/Anderson or Bates(12)

3B: Youk (90)/Lowell (72)

C: Varitek(120)/Martinez(42)

DH: Ortiz(120)/Lowell(42)

 

Give or take a few games for prospects and injuries. I think something like that works out well.
