I have my doubts about that. In Yankeethought' date=' Montero would function just fine as a backup.[/quote']

Do you know who Jesus Montero is?

This id might actually end up a better hitter than Mauer, you could theorize they'll move him from the C spot, but that bat will play backup to nobody.

I still think you're thinking like a normal team rather than like the NYY.

Grow a pair of balls.

Forget the Red Sox fan inferiority complex and focus on reality.

They won't go out and sign Mauer to a $100 million plus contract just to keep him off the Sox when they have a catcher who's 7 years younger and could wind up a better hitter.

Could wind up a better hitter, sure, is he going to be one out of the box? Hardly.

Yankee failosophy is to take the sure thing now and let the future look to itself. Montero's very young, he'll probably keep.

Does anyone else have some fear with Francona not sitting Tek? He really needs to if the sox want to win this year. I really think the sox have a great chance of winning it all again this year with this pick up and i think they'll have just enough pitch for the playoffs.

Whats everyone thinking?

Varitek is having a pretty good year. Why sit him?

he's got a better OPS this season than he did in 2007 and if I recall, they won in 2007...

.790 OPS out of the C position. I'll take that from Varitek.

Lowell can't play defense.

OPS doesn't me crap if we arent scoring runs and the teams batting AVG. is .265. They need someone like lowell in the bottom of the line up to score some runs.

do you really think they can beat the yankees or the angels in the playoffs? they are way better teams then 07.

Batting average is the most useless stat in the history of ever.

There's a little more to baseball than you read in the morning paper, Cobra.

Just to bring you up to date:

AVG is useful for some things but as a measure of overall hitting talent it's very outdated. Stick with OBP, SLG and On Base Plus Slugging (OPS). That's still not perfect but it's better than batting average.

There are posters here who pay careful attention to the game and to the advanced numbers. If it's a common opinion here it's far more likely to be right than wrong in the long run. I say that as someone who goes against the common opinion a lot here. Unless we're going out of their way to be jerks, not unheard of here, it's better to assume that we know what we're talking about than it is to assume we don't.

Well, think about it. "OPS doesn't me crap if we aren't scoring runs."

Sense: that makes none.

Fixed.

Even less sense.

Negative sense is being produced.

We're nearing Rosenthal level over here.

"Ken Rosenthal reports that water does, in fact, make you wet"

So you're saying Cobra=Rosenthal?

Imma go pass out now.

Ken Rosenthal reports that to win a game you need to, in fact, score more runs than the other team.
