I'd guess Reddick gets the start, and he'd hit 9th.

Here's my lineup:

Ellsbury

Pedroia

Youkilis

Ortiz

Martinez

Bay

Lowrie

Varitek

Reddick

Why sit the guy with a 10 game hitting streak--Lowell? Why not sit Varitek?

Because Lowell needs days off with his balky hip and I don't think you throw Martinez into catching his first game here.

Sit Varitek Sunday during the day game.

Just because a player's on a hot streak doesn't make them suddenly immune to fatigue, or in this case, their hip problems flaring up.

As much as the news about PED's hurts, it seems to have lit a fire under Ortiz's ass, which is a huge thing for us. If he can rake down the stretch, we are going to be a hard to team to beat.

Looks like this whole debate about lineups is going to become even more frequent from here on out.

And oh yeah Ells, can we have yet another catch of the day? It's becoming a tradition.

Reddick batting 8th and starting in RF. I'm really curious about why they wanted to experiment with this. It wasn't like he was playing out of this world with AA.

Yeah' date=' why sit Ortiz who has homered in back to back games and he is scalding the ball right now.[/quote']

Because regular days off help prevent fatigue. Just because a guy is seeing the ball well doesn't mean he shouldn't get his regular breathers.

Ellsbury has been absolutely ridiculous for us lately. Nevermind what he did last night, he has seriously been tremendous. It seems that he has figured out how to combine his success from the 7 spot with his ideal spot at leadoff. If this is true, I think it can be the type of transition that really sparks a lineup and helps balance the lineup. I think it's a piece of the team that has flown under the radar for a bit.

So? It can apply mentally as well as physically.

I agree that they (they meaning designated hitters) still need a day off, but not as much as someone who also plays in the field. There's much less wear and tear. Besides, I think at this point and time Ortiz wants to be on the field due to his success immediately following the 2003 fallout.

I agree they should sit him every once and awhile, but not at this moment. I'm glad they're not.

Highly underrated, probably has been our 3rd best offensive player this year behind Youk and Bay

Nice and short-sighted.

I do my best for you J_E.!:D

Really, what is the debate? The lineup will be in flux for the remainder of the season from what we can see. Francona was just thrown this s***. He'll just have to make it work. Somehow.

I'm actually interested to see Reddick. Maybe he struggles, maybe not?

It would be cool to see V-Mart get off to a hot start with the Sox. We all take for granted the comings and goings of players in trades, etc. V-Mart was very upset yesterday. Normally I might comment that my heart pumps piss for a millionaire athlete. But I was reminded that these guys are human yesterday as Masterson and V-Mart were exiting their clubhouses.

Sox roster moves

Posted by Monique Walker, Globe Staff August 1, 2009 04:54 PM

A few roster moves to report for the Red Sox today. Victor Martinez, who is starting at first today, and Casey Kotchman were added to the active roster. To make room for both players, the Red Sox optioned pitcher Marcus McBeth back to Triple-A Pawtucket and placed catcher George Kottaras on the disabled list.

So Kottaras has stubbed his toe. Hmmm.

The interesting thing is that Wake is now due back before Kottaras. It'll be fun to count the past balls in his absence.

I think that Martinez can catch Wakefield..Kottares isn't the only person in the league who can but it's not going to help with runners on base because Martinez is almost as bad as Varitek at controlling the running game.
