I always forget how much the HR Derby sucks.

I'd really like to see some kind of skills competition. Something that evolved speed. Maybe we could see how fast runners get to first and and around the bases. Maybe a throwing accuracy event. Anything that would reveal the athleticism of the players.

I would enjoy that so much more than the derby.

Morgan' date=' Berman and Phillips sure as hell don't help any.[/quote']

The only thing of interest that Morgan has said is that he believes Rod Carew was the best hitter he had seen.

Otherwise these three are a total bore.

I think it would really be interesting to see Ellsbury run against other speed demons.

Outfielders throwing home for accuracy?

It may suck at times, but I can't think of many things that got me more excited than watching Josh Hamilton in last year's HRD

i got another idea, they should give a # to everyone who votes for the Home Run Derby and put a coresponding number on every ball and the number on the ball that is hit for the winning HR in the final round wins some sort of prize i.e. free tickets to next years ASG and HRD or a signed bat from the winner or a cash prize, you get the idea.

A nice thing about the all-star week is that the MLB Network is replaying lots of classic All Star games.

Right now, 1995 game is on.

Huge, steroided players all over the place. Odalis Parez (who I forgot about) is doing is absurd dance whenever someone swings at his pitches. Manny in his second season. Pudge Rodriguez looks like a gigantic tenderloin at the plate. Bonds looks trim. Raul Mondesi doesn't. Neither does Dante Bichette.

Pre-trade Heathcliff Slocum (of the Phils at the time) brought in to face Pudge. Gets him swinging.

Pudge is followed in the order by... none other than a young Jim Edmonds (LAA... er, CA?).

Pretty fun stuff.

i still dont have the MLB network but i did watch the '99 Home Run Derby on ESPN the other day a few buckets of roids there too obviously with both the infamous Sosa and the even more infamous Mark "Big Mac" McGuire.

Longoria is out of the game tonight with an infected ring finger. Michael Young will start instead and Chone Figgins has taken his place on the roster.
