They are comparable players offensively and defensively, but one costs half as much as the other.

 

It's not just half a season in which Tex has had a UZR/150 in the negatives. He's had a UZR/150 in the negatives four of the last five years. Youkilis has never had a UZR/150 in the negatives at first base. And this is the third year of his career in which his UZR/150 at first has been at least +10.

I do, and so would anyone with a basic understanding of sabermetrics. If you don't believe me google ZR and Orlando Hudson and prepare to be humbled. There's a reason ZR was improved upon.

 

I like the use the best defensive stat available, call me silly for that if you want. But don't claim ZR is better than UZR when every sabermetrician in the world would disagree.

 

Regardless, Youk has been the better hitter this year. You can't argue that unless: A ) You don't understand statics B ) You're a homer. You remind me of Jacko, which I haven't seen in a while, hmmm...

I like a defensive stat that includes fielding chances on throws from the infielders, don't believe UZR computes that. To each his own. That dude is annoying. Very hard to enjoy the game (for me atleast when he's posting) everything every and any has to be contradicted broken down into 100 different stats. And he is a debbie downer. I just want to break a Sam Adams beer bottle over his head and show him my stats. (2 rings in 5 years. 4 ALCS bids since 2003 and a divison title) He needs to enjoy the game more he takes it way too seriously I'm sure he's a great Sox fan though.

 

Also as far as your post about no Longoria he made sure to annoint Garza Upton and Kazmir. Just last week the Yankees were going to burry us right before the break.

I agree, over his career he's had a +2 UZR/150 I believe. The thing is, Youkilis is much more than just an "above average" defensive first baseman. He's an elite defensive first baseman.
