Yeah, as much as Schilling runs his mouth, he was dead on about Tek last year. Basically said that Tek would never use this as an excuse but he had a lot of personal issues last year (his wife) that affected his performance and he'll be right back to his old self this year.

The thing is, Schilling may run his mouth, but he's dead on over 90% of the time, really.

You know what makes this game even more awesome?

Bruce Chen (0-3, 6.88) vs. Josh Beckett (10-3, 3.62) tomorrow.

So, "The Natural" keeps hammering us.

Maybe he sees it as an audition to become a Red Sox,lol.

Yeah, what is he, 7-10 in this series?

It's interesting, Tek was all but dead according to most Sox fans and media people. Now that he is producing (again), very few are vocal.

"Having said that", I'd be very happy if Tek hits .240 or above this year. And 20 or more HR certainly seem achievable.

I said this earlier today, but his OPS is almost the same as Victor Martinez' who some of us think we need to acquire to improve our offense.

i think Smoltzy is going to be looked at as a steal at the end of the year, especially since he can pitch relief if we need him to in the post season, and in case you havent heard Smoltz owns the post season.

He's the most dominant active postseason starter now that Schilling's retired. I don't think he'll be pitching out of the bullpen.

Anyone who has been through a divorce can understand what Tek must have been going through last year. No one can say for sure what Tek's troubles were last year. But it's safe to say that he may have been distracted by off field problems. The death of a loved one is over very quickly. But a divorce goes on and on. It weighs heavily on an individual and can affect performance. From what I've experienced, anyway.

Beckett says hello.

It kind of reminds me of when J.D. Drew's son was sick in 2007 and everyone got on him for having a poor year (by his standards). His son got healthy that offseason and he's been great ever since.

I knew someone would say that.

Beckett has a 2.90 ERA in 87 postseason innings. Smoltz has a 2.65 ERA in 207 postseason innings.

Anyone saw Eck's awesome Bee-Gee do?

He got awfully defensive about the possibility of being a Bee Gees fan there...

Yeah.

You try pitching with an oblique injury.

First 46 games, 1 home run. Last 34 games, 11 home runs. That's gotta be one of the more torrid home run paces of his career.
