The Jays are overplaying there hand on Halladay. No team is going to give 4 of there top 8 prospects w/ at least 2 being top 3 for a 32 year old pitcher who says he will test the market in a year and a half. If he was 25 then they have every right to ask for that. Much like the Twins did w/ Santana I can see the Jays walking away w/ far less then they were offered in the first place. I thought the Philly deal was fair

I dont think they walk away with too much less, the jays are dealing from a point of strength because they are not desperate to trade him, they want to but i think that they wont be dissapointed if they keep him...

They are kind of screwed becuase the only teams that can really afford him and the reupp are in their division, the philly move made sense and I am kind of glad they didnt pull the trigger.

[quote=Mr Crunchy;442356;Halliday almost guarantees 2 straight trips to Octobers tourney and probably another parade.

This guy is the best pitcher in the game, will throw 375 innings for us in the next 1.5 years and can be counted on day in and day out..

Heck, they know that. That's why they are going to get him whatever the cost.

Ricciardi will cave in in the end, because the owners have told him to cut salary. The Yankees apparently are quite content with this--from what I've read. Then, there's the two LA teams--they could get him, too. But the Sox probably have the best potential package, if they want to deal. The one guy they need to keep is Bard.

I do find it funny that people say the yankees would be mortgaging their future. Lets put it this way, the yankees can match the sox step for step from A+ and below. Any deal for Hall, aday would decimate either team's stock of close to MLB ready talent. Something that would be regenerated in 1-2 seasons based on the capacity to pay overslot and to sign INTL FAs.

I think with our recent history of developing young arms the sox have the best potential in a Halliday package but I will also be willing to wager that no way Ricciardi keeps this guy in the ALEast.

Of course he could give him to Boston, lose his job and then show up on NESN wearing a Yankees Suck t-shirt and a sox hat while filling in for Remy.

This is what happens when we get too close to the deadline.

I start hallucinating and hear voices telling me to go home and clean the guns.

No way he stays in the East, I'll stand by this till 5pm Friday night.

Well, JP is saying that they arent gonna deal him and will make an attempt to be competitive in 2010. He has somewhat of a point saying that his team is incredibly unhealthy. But Marcum and McGowan have no guarantee that they'll come back strong. I have a feeling JP makes a deal at the deadline next yr if he's serious. Cause even if McGowan and Marcum come back lights out, they arent close to us.

Peter Gammons is reporting that a deal for Toronto ace Roy Halladay is 'imminent'. It is unclear which prospects will be sent to Toronto in the deal, but a source close to Red Sox management acknowledged a verbal agreement has been reached. Sources believe the deal is based around [Clay] Buchholz, with the Red Sox sending two first-tier prospects and a third mid-tier. More details to follow.

MOD NOTE: This is false.

That was 4 hours ago. It wouldn't surprise me if old man Gammons fell asleep with his laptop on and someone decided to screw around making up some rumors.

They'd love to but there's no chance in hell anyone assumes that deal.
