Please please please please please please please. I want Halladay.
... or add another prospect if necessary. I hope the Yankees doen't get into this to drive up the price. I think this is a strong offer. It could get the deal done unless the Yankees throw a wrench into the works.

Probly way off but whatever.

Sox receive Halladay, Jack Wilson, prospect from Chi

Toronto receives - Buchholz, Lowrie, Bowden, Westmoreland

Pirates receive - prospects from Chi and Tor

Cubs receive - Scutaro and Grabow

If that's all we have to give up, hope it works out. Thought it would be more than that.

With Smoltz's last start and the Dice-K issues, having Halladay now would make me feel better about our chances for the rest of the season/post season. It'd be sweet.

I wonder if the Jays will have the guts to trade him in the division. Imagine saying the Yankees and the Red Sox will have to pay more. Santana got shuffled out of the AL for less than what the Yankees or Red Sox were offering. Did Selig have a hand in that? You never know. But I wouldn't buy a used car from him.

The Pirates are a possible 3rd team. Though I would think the Sox would be interested in Scutaro.

I don't think the Sox have made their final offer for Halladay. They are still holding cards.

Is it crazy to say that I'd add Lowrie to the current offer we made to get it done? Pick up a SS on waivers and let Green play the rest of the year. Lowrie isn't turning heads offensively, he's not untouchable by any means.

What's with this blind faith in Halladay?:D

No Sir, I don't think that is crazy at all.

Would it be possible to just swap Scutaro and Lowrie (or add another B prospect)' date=' or would we not want him?[/quote']

I'd take Scutaro in a second. He's defensively better than any of the SS's we've had since Nomar outside of Gonzalez. I imagine we would have to throw in one more player though, they won't do Lowrie-Scutaro.

That's what I figured. If it would take Lowrie, I'd much rather throw in another prospect and get Scutaro than run out Green everyday or deal for Wilson, etc.

I'm just SURE he'd DOMINATE in the post season!

No, seriously there are major concerns with Smoltz and now Dice-K. I gave Smoltz until his last start, hoping to see something promising. They are saying Dice-K MAY be back in September.

If it's Buchholtz, Bowden and the outfielder, I don't feel bad at all. It was when I was hearing Bard, Lester, etc etc and "giving up the whole farm" that it just sounded like too much to give up.

I hope if we get Halladay, he helps us get to the post season and performs well once there.

More from the Globe:

"The 24-year-old Buchholz, who pitches tonight, is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA in two starts for the Red Sox this season after tearing through Triple-A Pawtucket earlier this season. The 22-year-old Bowden is 3-5 with a 3.09 ERA for the PawSox. The 19-year-old Westmoreland has six homers and 21 RBIs to go along with a .279 average in 32 games for the Single-A Lowell spinners.

Edes believes that the Sox' offer to the Jays is comparable to the package Toronto was seeking from the Phillies: rookie lefthanded pitcher J.A. Happ, pitching prospect Kyle Drabek, and outfield prospect Dominic Taylor. According to Edes, the Phillies have balked at the inclusion of Drabek.

Edes also notes in the report that Daniel Bard and 19-year-old Casey Kelly (both a pitching and shortstop prospect) have been declared off-limits by the Red Sox in trade talks."

I heard on ESPN the offered happened but Gammons said Boston is unsure about dealing prospects, which makes no sense if the deal was actually offered. I do that deal in a heartbeat.

VA Sox Fan, thanks for the bit about Bard being untouchable, he's the one prospect i would not let go of.

I am suspicious that this offer leaked. The Sox are pretty good about maintaining radio silence. Either the rumor is baseless or the Sox had some motive to leak it.

I dont think the Sox leaked it.

Toronto wants to deal with the Phillies first and foremost, they leaked it to make PHI sweeten their deal.

An AL official believes the Red Sox "will step up" for Adrian Gonzalez and tempt the Padres with their many prospects.

Yahoo's Gordon Edes reports that the Red Sox offered "at least" Clay Buchholz, Michael Bowden and Ryan Westmoreland to the Blue Jays for Halladay.

If that's not enough for Halladay then move on.

This is what I was thinking. Maybe the Sox are helping get Halladay out of the AL east. They probably figure if he's not gonna come to Boston, might as well help get him out of the the AL.

That would be a pretty good idea. Offer Toronto Buchholz, Bowden, and Westmoreland. If they take it, awesome. If it makes Phillie step up and get him, fine. I just hope the Sox do SOMETHING, whether it be Halladay, Lee, Gonzalez, or some other impact pitcher/bat. I don't think this current team is strong enough to win a championship without some serious luck.

I guess Pittsburgh, the Sox flip Lowrie to Toronto and something else (likely a little lesser than the LaRoche package) to Pittsburgh, Jack Wilson and Roy Halladay to Boston.

This team needs to a avoid Jack Wilson like the plague, yet they keep "kicking the tires" on him.

Why do they need to avoid Wilson like the plague?

Because he doesn't offer anything more the Lowrie/Green really.

Defensively?

Also, if the FO is hell-bent on getting Halladay and Toronto is hell-bent on getting a SS prospect, you don't have many other options.
