Kind of shocking. Why call Bates up? He's hitting around .180 at Pawtucket in 88 AB. He was tearing it up for a stretch but came down to earth in his last 30 AB or so.

Maybe the Sox figure if he can't hit MLB pitching now he'll never be able to at age 25.

He's the last healthy RHH corner infielder we have.

Crap! This better not mean Kotsay's on the DL.

The corresponding move is Lowrie to the 60 day DL, retroactive to April.

Oh, OK. I can live with that.

That's right. He has a name' date=' but he is a nobody. They'd be better off letting Smoltz hit tonight.[/quote']

He's not really a nobody...he hit .340 in AA and was a guy that worked hard in the offseason to improve his stance and his swing. The results showed and he has a small sample size of at bats in AAA.

You realize that all prospects have to start somewhere? Not everyone that will come through this farm system is a household name. Sure Bates isn't a blue-chipper in the Buchholz/Anderson form but he's a legit prospect.

Go to a bar where they watch they game tonight. Ask the regulars if they have heard of him. The responses, or lack of responses, will tell you that he is a nobody.

I'm not sure a handful of drunk people are the best meter of a prospect's talent. Maybe that's just me though :dunno:

He's closer to a cow-chipper than a blue-chipper. The organization should have allowed itself to get caught shorthanded like this. The A's are a bad team and the Sox should sweep them at home, but if you start throwing guys like this out there anything can happen.

I'm talking about regular patrons that watch the game every night and scream at the TV. Those are good fans. They will not know who this kid is.

It's the organization's fault that Lowell, Kotsay and Bailey are all hurt at the same time? That's a bit of a stretch. That Lowell was put on the DL at all was more a precautionary measure than anything else. By all accounts, he's feeling fine and he'll be back after the All-Star break.

I'm not sure a handful of angry bar patrons are the best meter of a prospect's talent either :D

Now, they have to put this bush leaguer in the starting lineup.

Elitist snob. Those guys probably know more about the game than you do. Just because they don't know the stats of every farm hand doesn't mean that you are a better or more knowledgeable fan.

And just because they don't know who Aaron Bates is, that means he's a bush leaguer? That's the point I'm making here...

He has no major league experience, which means that he is a bush leaguer. He also doesn't have much minor league experience. He has no business in the starting lineup tonight.

Mark Kotsay has been doing just fine as a backup (.291/.316/.382). He's day-to-day and Lowell's due back in about a week. I think you're blowing this one game way out of proportion.

I realize that this can happen from time to time, but I hope we don't see this kid beyond tonight. I know you youngsters have a fascination with seeing the prospects, but I'd rather watch them at the Futures Game instead of at a Red Sox game.

It's only for a week. God forbid the kid gets to play a couple games in the Majors while the veterans who will help the team down the stretch get a few extra days rest:rolleyes:

Let's just hope that they don't drop a couple of games against teams they should beat handily. Playoff spots can be decided by one or two games.
