He has never struggled this much with the Yankees, and he is one of the main culprits in the Yankees' offensive struggles. This team, as presently constructed, cannot compete for a championship without A-Rod producing in my opinion. Obviously there isn't much they can do, but I think it might help if they switched A-Rod and Teixeira.

Far too soon to give up on the guy but I would absolutely switch him and Teixeira.

Right, again, I was not giving up on him at all haha. That would be crazy. And I also said there isn't much you can do with him. However, switching them is the one of the few things I can think of. The Yankees need A-Rod to produce if they want to succeed over the course of the entire season, and then into the playoffs (if they make them).

I don't understand the point of switching Tex with Arod. Why move a hitter who's cold up in the lineup, and a hitter who's hot down in the lineup?

If anything, Arod could move down after Cano and Posada.

Personally, I think Arod is fine where he is. Sooner or later, he'll snap back into shape, and he'll be fine.

... or he could be done.

He has had over 160 plate appearances. You do not get that many in Spring Training. And as CD already pointed out, he does not already start slowly.

He is not fine. He was hitting for power and walking when he first came back. Now he is doing neither.

A-Rod might not have had a play at first, but he needs to keep the ball on the infield and keep Guzman at first. That is a terrible play.

EDIT: This really should be in the game thread. This thread is not about A-Rod's defense.

You guys are idiots.

The guy had hip surgery 3 months ago. He hasn't had a single day off since he came back. The only thing that matters is production, as in homers. He's been hitting them. His stroke is off, but it's much easier to make up batting average than homeruns. A two or three 3-hit games, and his batting average is right back. Look at Tex.

It's the right thing...give him a few days off, let his body recover, and you'll see him go on a tear soon.

Not many people can come back from surgery in 6 weeks and not miss a game since he starts playing. He's scuffling, that much is true. That's it. He's in-between right now, late on the FB and too quick on the BB. His pitch recognition is off.

It's like you guys expecting Smoltz to come back and be a dominant pitcher right off the bat. He may, but realistically, he's scuffle a bit before he finds his form.

I see nothing wrong with giving him days off. But you can't deny that he's been scuffling this year. The only thing that matters is production, correct, and his OPS is at a career low at .832. I fully expect him to improve, and giving him days off could very well make this happen.

And I don't think anyone here honestly expects Smoltz to dominate right off the bat. He's not going to be as good as he was in Atlanta for a number of reasons: injury, age, change of leagues. We've accepted that. He should still be a productive pitcher, and he'll add to the depth and improve the team. Don't put words in our mouths.

Arod looks awful, remember when torre batted him 8th in the playoffs against detroit?

He should be hitting 8th now, hes killing the yankees.

Roid users need some time to come back when they quit their cycles entirely.

We have seen this syndrome end or even destroy careers, Arod will need more time due to his hip
