During Thursday's post-game show on the YES Network, Yankees manager Joe Girardi revealed that Mariano Rivera's surgically repaired shoulder has been bothering him.

The news came minutes after Rivera suffered his first loss of the season, allowing two home runs to the Rays after entering a tie game in the ninth inning. His velocity has taken a noticeable dip and he may need a few days off. Rivera still has a 3.97 ERA and a 17/0 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings this season.

When Mariano is done I think Joba will take his job more than adequately.

I am placing my bets on Papelbon to do that.

Why would Papelbon care one way or the other?

If you ask me, he'd probably be against it. He's more likely to hit the free agent market than any of your homegrown players, and if that's the case, I'd imagine he'd like the richest two teams bidding for his services.

That makes no sense.

Papelbon is the only one out of Youk, Pedroia, and Lester who hasn't signed a long-term deal. What I'm saying makes sense. Sorry if you don't like it.

I like Theo not giving big $ to paps with Bard on the way. But Theo should have wrapped up Bay - his value will only be going up.

They tried. They made an offer, one that reflected the current market.....the value you refer to in your post. Bay declined stating he would wait to see if the market for talent recovered a little over the next year.

Why do you always assume you know what is going on? Second time.

Everyone keeps talking about shoulder like we are concerned for a rotator cuff injury. He had his AC joint operated on. He proved last yr that he can pitch with it. It isnt something that will cause him significant harm, it is just gonna be uncomfortable until it fully heals.

Because Mariano never bounces back from slow starts.

He said his strength still isn't 100%. It'll get there, and he'll be fine.

I hate how the media blows this s*** up. I guarantee you tomorrow everything on the radio will be about how the Yankees are going to win their next 30 games with A-Rod in the lineup, and Sabathia throwing shutouts.

This knee jerk stuff is embarrassing.

GOM, I think you were missing the point.

Papelbon would care, because like it was stated by yourself....he will hit the FA market. Papelbon would be excited Rivera is hurt because many of us see him signing with the Yankees since he believes his value is mush higher than the Redsox see it, plus the fact we already have more than 1 person capable of stepping in to that closer role once he leaves.

Papelbon will look for a huge deal, and the Yankees, like they always do....will throw wads and wads of cash at him.

There is a reason why he is one of the only homegrown players not extended, and little effort made at extending........we have guys ready to step in for him, we dont believe hes worth what he thinks hes worth, and he is just one fastball away from blowing out his shoulder, which was never surgically repaired, and nobody really knows whats going on inside of it.

lol SCM gets it right immediately. Gom still troubled with the definition of contradiction.
