Countdown to the "Is there something wrong with Papelbon?" post from Jacko, ..... 3.....2......

Whew!!!! GAme over! Why would Varitek let him throw so many pitches over the plate with 0-2 count? I guess maybe he has become an offensive-orientd catcher.

Holy f*** holy f*** that was an insane at bat by Kendrick. Hard hit ball right at Baldelli. We are lucky to come out victorious.

Let's remember this game when things don't go the way we want when the Sox are rallying in the 9th another game... sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't.

You can't really blame them. It isn't like there was a place to put Kendrick, and it isn't like Papelbon is easy to hit even when he is over the plate. Why waste a pitch with the bases loaded?

Was only able to catch the last inning. Someone mind telling me how Penny looked?

The one thing I noticed with Papelbon is that his velocity looked down when he was trying to blow people away with the high fastball especially Hunter and Kendrick. When he throws the high fastball he usually hits 97 and blows people away, today he only hit 95. That being said its still early obviously.

Holy f*** that was so f***ing intense i mean it was like playoff ball and Torii went BOOM!, and then i was like "OH f***" and then Morales goes "BRRRRRRRROM" into 2nd and i was like, "OH CRAP", and then he pwn3d Aybar and when Napoli got up to bat i was like "HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH THE GODDAMN ITALIAN CATCHER" but then he walked and then Paps pwn3d Aybar and i was like "YAY!" but then Fiiggins took the walk and i was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" and then Kendrick was fouling off everything and i was like "SON OF A BITCH" and then he flied out and i was like "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY".

That about sums up my 9th inning experience.

Penny looked pretty good. He settled in after not looking to have command early. His FB reached (on FOX) 96 I believe, but was generally sitting in the low 90s. (Gameday may differ). Overall he looked good for a #5.

Gameday concurs, his fastball touched 96 on at least 3 different occasions.

It's not great either. Think of how easily an opponent could turn Tek and Lowery lefty and how easy it would be to match up with that lineup from a bullpen point of view.

Yeah there are plenty of holes in it. You just named one, its pretty streaky with the left/right handed batters. Another one is Jacoby might be blocked from stealing a base too often.

Maybe this would work better:

1. Drew

2. Youkilis

3. Pedroia

4. Ortiz

5. Bay

6. Varitek

7. Lowell

8. Lowrie

9. Ellsbury

First off, the left/right hand inbalance is reduced. Got two on-base machines at the top of the lineup, and Pedroia would serve very well as a third hitter behind them. He'd rack up the RBI's, though Drew and Youk's lack of speed might hinder that somewhat, not to mention having Ortiz (hopefully healthy and effective) batting right behind him. Ellsbury at the bottom of the lineup, if he gets on base he can be pushed into scoring position by either Drew or Youk getting on, which they do very well. Varitek at 6 might be a bit of a stretch, I admit.

You do know Drew's the 3rd fastest runner on that lineup behind Ells and Petey right?

And who the f*** asked you?

What, are you against freedom of speech or something?

Besides, everyone lets you spew your s*** quietly, so go die in a fire.

Not to defend diony, but how exactly is he attacking freedom of speech, which, btw, doesn't exist on message boards?
