The A's are terrible offensively, but it's nice to see CC continue to pitch well. Unfortunately, they actually might lose this series, because Gaudin vs. Anderson certainly does not favor them.

Moneyball philosophy results in some ridiculous decisions. The A's get the first two guys on base in the 8th inning in a 1 run game. The batter is a 270 lb rookie Everidge who has been swinging at pinatas all night. Rather than put up a guy that can bunt to get both guys into scoring position where an out can score the tying run, he let's the fat load swing away. A strikeout would have been a plus. He hits a grounder to third base for a DP. Idiotic.

Why is that strategy considered "Moneyball?"

Is it just me...or is Joba a very ordinary pitcher with an ordinary fastball? What happened to the 97 MPH fastball?

I think a lot of it is mechanical. You have a kid who has always just overpowered people who got a big time scare last yr with the shoulder injury. Also, this is the first full yr he has started, well, ever. His last yr at Nebraska, he missed a bunch of time with a tricep injury. In 2007, he missed the first 3 weeks with a hammy injury and then switched to relief at the end of the yr. In 2008, he started out of the pen, then went to the rotation, got injured and then went back to the pen. This is really the first yr he has started out as a starter and has stayed healthy.

Well, he looks like he went to the Brad Penny school of dietary nutrition. Apparently, he went to the Brad Penny school of pitching too.

Why has his speed dropped so much though? Previous injury should have nothing to do with this since he hasn't been injured since he threw 97.

Fun game, even though we lost. Good that Texas kept pace with the Red Sox. Really, we can't lose here, even when we lose.

He was out. Replays showed he was out. Good call by the ump.

4 game by September 1st. If that's your lead, the Sox will chase you down and pass you at the end.

BTW Joba is starting to remind me of Penny.

LOL! You really think you can catch us? Funny s*** dude. You still have three games with us at the end of the year at the Stadium.

...and after the first game, you will be in terror having 2004 flashbacks.

If the positions were reversed, wouldn't you think the same thing? There is always a possibility, however slim or however you look at it, that a team with a 6 game lead can lose that lead in 35 games.

Mabe it won't happen. I'm betting it won't, probably. But don't make it sound like it's impossible, because it's not. It's baseball. The only things that are impossible are five-run homers, strike four, and anyone not hating AJ Pierzynski.

The Mets contend it can happen.

No. You guys get lucky in one playoff series and act like it's the norm. The fact is...you've beaten us ONCE. That's it. We've handed you your asses so many times, it's not even funny.

It's like the series in NY a few weeks ago. We hadn't beaten you, yada yada yada. We smoked you in four games. Then it was...we haven't won in Fenway...and we won that series too.

So...continue believing that ONCE is the norm. Just don't be shocked when it bites you in the ass.
