Why did Joba only pitch 3 innings 35 pitches today?

 

New Joba rules, so they can keep him on normal rest. According to what I've heard, by the end of the season, he'll be throwing a normal amount of innings per start in an attempt to get him ready for the playoffs (if the Yankees make it).

 

Today was the only start where there was concern about the bullpen, because, when Joba makes his next start, the rosters will be expanding.

The Yankees so badly want to feel comfortable using Brian Bruney is close games, but there has to be a point when they realize that is just not an option. I'm not saying tonight is close, but the guy has gotten so many opportunities. He has a couple good outings every so often, but he is incredibly inconsistent with suspect control (at best).

Stuff always looks good with Burnett. But, like you said, that alone is not good enough.

Damon has looked terrible in his plate appearances. Taking the best pitches to hit, and swinging at pretty bad pitches (for the most part).

It's been happening for the last month. And it was happening on and off early in the season. This has the potential to be even worse in the playoffs, when he goes up against more patient and selective offenses. Look Jacko, I know you have this extreme bias towards the Yankees, but this pitching is going to be a concern come playoff time. Burnett is a huge question mark. Chamberlain, if they choose to pitch him, is a huge question mark. Pettitte, even though he has been great, is pitching over his head and we both know it.

His August ERA was 6.03. This is not just a problem every so often.

EDIT: Two pitches (first and last) that haven't been called strikes all night were called strikes against Teixeira.

Wow, Girardi is pretty awful. Letting Torre go was the biggest mistake this franchise ever made.

 

EDIT: Got lucky leaving Burnett in there for two extra batters, in my opinion. I think it's also pretty clear that Marte has surpassed Coke on the depth chart, which I like.
