Not to get too OT' date=' but is Pettitte better/worse than Wakefield, who you said was average to above average? Wake doesn't get 200+ IP (180 or so), but he has lower WHIPs and similar ERAs to Pettitte in the past 3 years.[/quote']

I have always said that Wakefield is a solid pitcher and a great bargain for the sox. That being said, I think a pitcher in the 3 hole is a guy who can give you innings and is consistently average to above average. Wakefield doesnt fit into a hole really because he is the most unpredictable pitcher in the game. I would say that he's anywhere from a #3-#5.

Pettitte looked vintage tonight. Sitting 88mph with the heater, hitting 91, and hitting the corner with everything. He was absolutely dominant. If not for a dropped popup in the sun, he'd have thrown 6 innings of shutout ball. He also noticed that the ump was giving about 6 inches off the corner consistently for both sides and he used it.

Striking out the side for professor Farnsworth, now that is dominant. Getting everyone to hit the ball at a fielder is fortunate, not dominant.

Whatever you say professor ORS. The Royals have been off balance the entire game and havent really had any good swings off him sans Butler's double. I'd consider that to be dominant. So I guess Guys like Maddux and Pettitte were just ridiculously lucky throughout their careers. Is that what you are going with ORS? Finesse pitchers who completely baffle the opposing team are lucky. Yeah, keep running with that skippy

Regardless, 7IP 3H 1ER 1BB 6K is a pretty dominant line, especially when one hit and one run were solely due to a dropped flyball that hit off the OFers glove on a ball that was lost in the sun

But, but, but .....shut the f*** up, you pom-pom waving ****. I'm just busting your balls, and I will continue to every time you use this forum to polish Yankee nutsack for every positive thing they do. Got it, Skippy?

Christ, you are worse than Michael Kay.

Awesome job by Bruney as the 8th inning guy.

Then Mo, of course. No need to say much. The bullpen has been amazing the past 3 games.

There was rumor circulating that Bruney was going to be the primary setup man out of ST. He looked dominant today. Maybe Marte is the 7th inning guy and the primary lefty specialist? I dunno. We'll see. Maybe Girardi is going with no specified roles aside from Mo in the 9th

Nice clean game today. They should have had more off of Ponson, especially considering how he was pitching early in the game, but it'll come with time. They've been hurt offensively in these first four games because they're cleanup hitter has one hit thus far. Obviously that won't be the case for very long.

On to tomorrow, when hopefully CC can rebound. It's really nice to have baseball back, I find myself looking forward to the next game very soon after each game ends.

They're keeping CC on normal rest and starting Joba Sunday.

Yeah, and I guess a secondary goal is that it allows CC to pitch the home opener (granted I recognize that means little to me, and probably little to the Yankees).

Lets see which CC shows up. Going off his history' date=' I should expect CC to be poor.[/quote']

I feel like you're just going off of last year. For most of his career he has actually pitched relatively well in his first few starts of the year.

He pitched poorly on monday, and he might pitch poorly later tonight. But lets try not to make excuses. If he pitches poorly he pitches poorly. We don't always need to attempt to justify his poor outings.

So is Joba supposed to follow CC in the rotation from here on out or are they going to juggle him back into his regular spot with maybe a skip here, a bump there, and an off-day around the corner or something?
Posted

I would imagine that they would just keep it with Joba following CC. I don't think the order that these guys pitch in really matter to the Yankees, except that they seemed to make a point to separate CC and Burnett.

However, who knows if they'll juggle the rotation at some point, maybe for a series against the Red Sox or something. I don't know if they've announced pitching plans that far down the road.

Teixiera got scratched from the lineup because of a sore wrist. Hopefully it isn't serious.
he probably got it from jerking off Red Sox management during his FA contract negotiations.

They said he could swing left handed, but couldnt swing right handed. SO, he couldnt face the lefty

Well considering how drawn out that process was, I would expect him to be out for the year.
