Can't wait for Pedroia to start talking about this. He's not exactly Spaceman Lee, or even Pap, but he should be good for a quote or two. One thing sure, humility does not come standard with this model.

Can't say i'm surprised, but i can certainly say i'm very pleased the man with the laser show won tha award.

Well Deserved Mighty Mouse. I have to laugh at some of the "self professed" experts over at SOSH who broke out scatter-graphs and all of their fancy stats to show Morneau deserved the award over Pedroia.. Now they are all hopping on his sack...fickle bunch of Elitist dorks. I know for a fact that most of them are fat, fooking coonts who haven't picked up gloves since little league. Pedroia is what every baseball player should be...and he has the stats to back it up. Pedroia's OPS was .869 and Morneau's was .873.. Pedroia won a gold glove and had the most hits, runs, and doubles in the A.L.

Lock him up now Theo. Pedroia will be a very rich man....seeing as Theo gave Lugo 4/$40 million--most can only dream of having that kind of bargaining power. 7/$90 million should do the trick.

Has anyone accomplished what Pedroia has in his first two years? WS title' date=' ROY, MVP, Silver Slugger and Gold Glove. Most guys don't do that in a career.[/quote']

Very good point. That would be a PHENOMENAL career for most. I know it is way down the road...and many things can happen, but I can see Pedroia's #15 going up there with the select few when all is said and done. Pedroia does not strike me as the type to rest on his laurels.

Talking about re3tiring the number of a 24 year old man is kinda funny but I'm definitely excited to see if Pedroia can take it to the next level.

A very nice addition to Pedroia's already thick resume.

Congrats to the little kid with the big swing!

He absolutely earned this award.

when was the last time an MVP had a sub .870 OPS and a sub .500SLG? I know Ichiro was one. Thats the last non pitcher with both of the above since 1976, when Thurman Munson won the MVP with a .769OPS and a .432SLG. IMO, this was a poor choice. They got swept up in the dirt doggedness and missed a dirt dog on his own team who was more deserving.
Player|Avg.|HR|RBI|OPS|OPS+|EQA|VORP|WARP1

Dustin Pedroia|.326|17|83|.869|122|.299|62.3|9.8

Kevin Youkilis|.312|29|115|.959|143|.313|55.8|8.4

Joe Mauer|.328|9|85|.864|137|.315|55.5|9.6

Justin Morneau|.300|23|129|.883|137|.306|45.5|8.6

Josh Hamilton|.304|32|130|.901|136|.309|57.1|8.1
I would say it's a two horse race between Mauer and Pedroia simply because offense is so difficult to find at those positions. I'll give the slight edge to Pedroia because of the edge in VORP and WARP1.

Also, you pointed out some pretty arbitrary numbers. Sub .870 OPS? What was the mean OPS for 2nd basemen this season?

You know now thinking about it...

Rookie of the Year

World Series Ring

All-Star

Silver Slugger Award

Gold Glove Award

Most Valuable Player

What's left to do?

I mean surely he can tac on more MVPs and All-Stars for a solid career, but as stated earlier, this 24 year old has done more in his first two years than a 40 year old washed out veteran of the game spent 20+ years trying to do, and never did.

I definitely said the exact same thing.

That's why I said " but as stated earlier."

I'm just agreeing with it but in my own words. Better than just making a post saying "I agree" I'd think.

I know. I'd say Batting Title could be there as well. The comparisons to Nomar - and they should be - are spot on. Little guy, big swing, great at Fenway, loved by all.... a wrist injury away.. I'm all for locking this guy up now, and everyone can agree his career will be a shell of it's current self by the time he's 30. But hellz yeah, the ride from now till then is 5 long years. Pay the kid now and enjoy the show for 4 more years!
