While we were extremely fortunate' date=' I find it very hard to believe that none of you are pissed off about this.[/quote']

Sure, I was mad, but it was very short-lived. I've had so many other positive things happen with this team over the past few years that I can't be upset about losing a game 7 to a superior team that they had no business in forcing. I would have been ecstatic if they lost, but this is a situation where you can do nothing but tip your cap to the Rays.

We didn't choke, we didn't lose to an inferior opponent, we lost to a good baseball team. Sure, I don't blame you for being upset after losing, but there are so many things to look ahead to in 2009 that are outweighing the negatives we just experienced.

I'm disappointed, no question about it, but I don't see any big issue about fighting to a near-draw and then losing to a team that was ahead of us in the standings when we've already got 2 rings in the last 5 years.

It's not like we went into the postseason fully healthy either -- I'd say the Sox exceeded my expectations and it's hard to be mad at that.

If we went down in Game 5, id be extremely pissed but its hard to be pissed at a team that showed incredible heart. They lost to a team that has absolutely no holes, aside from the lack of a closer. They have loads of speed, hit for power, extremely balanced lineup, fantastic defense, great manager, great rotation and a great bullpen. Theyre simply the better team

All that being said, I hope the Phillies rip off their heads and s*** down their necks....wont happen but im hoping nonetheless

If Maddon was paying attention to Price's performance in the 9th last night that closer hole was just filled as well.

Yea, I was gonna say, they mightve found their guy last night

The only thing that pisses me off is that 95% of the people celebrating in that stadium last night didn't realize Tampa even had a f***ing baseball team until 3 weeks ago

Now now, right now the fanbase is still catching up with the team, but Boston had to go through that -- themselves once (and if I remember my history correctly, much more than once!). And there are a handful of core faithful who would put 8,000 butts in seats to watch the Rays lose to the Kansas City Royals. Those fans do deserve this.

Honestly. I'm not. If you told me before the season started that:

We would get NOTHING out of Schilling

Buchholz would s*** the bed

Drew would miss a month and a half

Beckett, DiceK would go on the DL for extended periods

Hansen, Timlin, Aardsma, etc. would s*** the bed constantly in the bullpen

Ellsbury would regress to Mario Mendoza levels

Ortiz would miss six weeks and never be the same

Manny would run himself out of town

And you still told me they made it to Game 7 of the ALCS in the manner they did, I would have called you crazy.

The Red Sox do not have to answer to anyone.

2009 is the year to be here. Believe that.

Agree totally Kilo.

All I ask for is to make the playoffs, then anything can happen from there. This team did it without alot of it's usual players contributing.

2009 is going to be crazy in the ALE. TB will be older, more experience, and may be coming off a title run. The Yanks will probably go out and break the bank to become more competitive. And the Sox have a great core. I'll be interested to see how Theo sets the team up for next year, considering how much better the ALE is now.

Well, I think getting through the first round of the playoffs isn't too much to expect but once my team does that, I try not to be too disappointed that they're only one of the 4 best teams in the league that year.

Pissed off isn't the nright word choice.

Am I disappointed? A little bit. But I find it very difficult to be pissed at a team who scores 8 runs over their last 2 innings to stave off elimination and then force a Game 7.

the Red Sox had a great year. It just seems like this is TB's run.

Disappointed- Yes

Bitter- No

Happy with the teams overall performance- Yes

Thrilled at the thought of how much fun the ALE is going to be to watch over the next couple years- Yes!

I think it's because the Sox have won recently that I can enjoy the Game more. Not sure if I'm making sense but, it just seems that way.

Before when they lost, it was loooong winters. Now I'm ok with it, a little disappointed, but otherwise fine with the effort.

Amen to that. The Rays are finally going to make this matchup interesting and hopefully not just be stepping stone for the Yanks and Sox. Should be a great next few years of baseball.

I think the Rays winning was good for baseball (as much as I'm sure Sox fans are pissed about).

Also, Kotsay looked like a badass snapping that bat across his leg. So we've got that going for us...

Unfortunately, this Rays team has 1-2 more years left in them before they get utterly dismantled. David Price is actually a better pitcher than he's shown thus far, which is scary. (Ask me about my "The Price is Right" shirt I got at a Vanderbilt game). Maybe the Yankees will be the ones to bear the brunt of that. 2009 will at least be interesting.

The key to Tampa's success is not becoming the Marlins, having their fire sales of stars who are entering their arbitration years

FOX and MLB would argue otherwise

btw, you seem to be the one guy out of the influx of Rays fans who seems to put together coherent sentences, let alone rational thoughts. I hope you stick around

Just got to tip your cap really. We've seen much worse endings to the season. The Sox had a great season, I am very much optimistic to what 2009 brings

It would have been nice. I guess this wasn't the year though. Tampa Bay is a damn good team and as I always pick a team to root for in the series anyways, looks like it will be the Rays.

I hope Lowell is healthy next year. There's only so much disappointment I can take...

Gom: TalkSox is weak. Strong in on-base percentage they are, but they are corrupt. A good fastball from our pitchers, and they will crumble. Together, as Yankee fans and Ray fans, we will destroy TalkSox and bring order to the AL East. Only then, will they understand the true power of Joba and Garza.

Kalas: What of Lester?

Gom: Strong in the off-speed pitches is he. If he could join us, he would be a powerful ally.

Kalas: Yes...he will join us...or we shall bring up Upton.

Gom: Yes...completion of the free agent market is nearly complete. Soon, not even TalkSox will be able to withstand the full fury of CC.

Elsewhere in TalkSox....

ORS: That's no moon! That's Sabathia!!!
