This would be very interesting. He's 26 right now, left handed and has shown significant improvement all 3 yrs he's been in the pros. He hit .276/.356/.497 this season with 26HR, 462B, 65BB, and 23SBs. The big knock on him is that he's an average to below average CFer, but a plus LFer. So, if there really is smoke here, I think a deal for McLouth gives us the 1 yr stopgap and he moves to LF once Damon and Matsui's contracts expire and AJax is ready.

He'd be a CFer for 09' date=' then a LFer in '10. Put it this way, he's a better CFer than Damon is right now. Thats a plus.[/quote']

I'm a better CF the Damon LOL, but thats not saying a whole lot:D The Yanks would be smart to listen to offers for Matsui or Damon. And possibly give some youngsters some AB's at the ML level.

I really don't understand the Pirates thinking. I can understand moving Bay and Nady, but not McClouth. Why trade a young OF...aren't they trying to stay young anyways?

PITTSBURGH- A week after missing the postseason for the first time since the 1990s, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman announced that owner Hank Stienbrenner has begun negotiations with other team owners and MLB executives to purchase the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, and Washington Nationals. Inside sources say the deal may already be done.

"We feel as an organization, our best chance to bring home another World Series title to New York is to increase our 300-man roster for the 2009 season", said Cashman in a recent interview with USA Today. Ownership of the Royals, Pirates, and Nationals are reportedly open to the possibility of the buyout, but players are skeptical of the benefits, especially concerned with playing time on a team with such a deep bench.

"How will I ever get an opportunity to pinch-hit?" said current Royal Mark Teahen. "I'm going to have twenty guys on the bench in front of me. I mean, at least in the postseason I'll get the start ahead of A-Rod, but what about the rest of the year?"

Pitchers, too, expressed reluctance to accept the deal as a positive career move. Pirates youngster Tom Gorzelanny was tentatively announced as the 45th starter in manager Joe Girardi's rotation, behind Zack Grienke, Paul Maholm, and some guy, but pitchers like Washingtons' Garrett Mock and Kansas City's Kyle Davies were moved to the 58-man bullpen.

Hank Stienbrenner was not available for comment, but released a statement assuring New York fans that the Yankees would indeed work hard to make it to the postseason 'even if we have to buy those god damn Mets' as well. Cashman later said that negotiations with Omar Minaya fell through when he refused to provide proof of Scott Schoenwiess' death before the purchase.

The effect on postseason play will be unnoticed, said Commissoner Bud Selig, because teams will be created to fill the voids left by the three dissolved franchises. Possible candidates are the Boise Fleas, Sheboygan Lumps, and the Walla Walla Mother-of-Pearl Sox.

Whatever the outcome, it will surely be an interesting year in New York baseball.

"Just think" Cashman added at the end of the press conference held to announce the involuntary exile of Carl Pavano from the mainland United States and all outlying territories, "we traded young guys to get Nady and...that other guy. Now we get them back! It's like free talent! Dude! I'm so smart!"

The press conference ended abruptly when Cashman recieved a texted photo of a champagne bottle next to a pair of buttocks with a smiley face drawn on them from Boston Red Sox GM Theo Epstien.

their system isnt that great aside from Alvarez and Andrew McCutchen. Also, McLouth is going into his 4th yr of service, and with his last season's performance, arb is gonna be pretty pricey.

They aren't that poor, and why would they talk to the Yankees if they want to improve their farm system?

It just doesn't make a lot of sense. Nady I understand, Bay I do as well, but not a 26 year old All-Star CF. Why not get a few more years out of the guy? I mean, how much younger are you really going to get?

I think that is a bad idea. KEEP Jose Molina. He's a great defensive catcher and probably the best throwing catcher in the AL, if not all of the bigs.

If you thought that was a serious trade proposition, I don't know what to tell you. The Pirates GM would laugh for a good 5 minutes before hanging up.

thats the problem. Guys with track records cost considerably more

I get that. I just don't like the risk/reward, especially at centerfield.
