Lester's incredible performance last night put all the pressure in the world on Anaheim.

If they can't beat the second winningest pitcher in the American League tomorrow, they will have to face Josh Beckett in an elimination game at Fenway Park.

I expect a desperate fight tonight, with all the stops pulled out and no holds barred.

Me too, in Chicago. The Cubs are behind the 8-ball right now. Tomorrow, it's the Angels' turn.

OK - 1st post here - so please go easy on me.....

Quick thought - before the 1st game I see most people posting that they would be happy to split over in lalaland. Does that still apply ??

Also - someone please gag the media on the playoff streak against the angels - ALL that does to my thining is fire them up to win - I know at some point its going to end but I hope NOT THIS YEAR !!!

It could still apply, because even the Sox will be good with Beckett and (if need) Lester at Fenway Park

Hoping its game 3 tho!! I just scored 1st base grand stand seats, my first playoff game. Closest thing Ive been to a playoff game was the last game of the 05 season, clinching the wild card

Welcome to the board. In response to your query, the goal was a split but you know what's better than a split? Being up 2-0 going back to Fenway

Im watching the World Series dvds, oh my god I am so psyched!!!

EDIT:

According to the Los Angeles Times, Gary Matthews Jr. is expected to be benched in favor of Juan Rivera for Game 2 of the ALDS.

Matthews has struggled offensively all season and lost a ball in the lights defensively in Game 1. However, Rivera wasn't any better offensively at .246/.282/.438 and either him or Vlad Guerrero is a downgrade in right field.

If they move Youks to third, it sure won't be Kotsay they put at first base. Kotsay at 1B is an emergency option. My guess is Casey.

But the more likely scenario, at least based on this year, is Cora SS, Lowrie 3B, Youk 1B.

I suspect you may be right, Dojji. And it's unfortunate because Kotsay has had some success against Santana when he's faced him.

Obviously we're all rooting for them to win, but if they don't then I still consider the first two games a success.

Kotsay is in but they downgrade defensively and offensively at ss with Lowrie being given the night off

Kotsay is a California native I believe. To me this is a free game and it might be a good idea to save Lowell for the lefty Saunders assuming he only has x amount of at bats in him.

while i'd agree with you CD it's dice k tonight. look i know he is like 18-3 with a 2.90 era but against teams that like to take pitches he gets touched up a bit on. What i'm trying to say is game 3 is when i'll start feeling the butterflies of the playoffs.

Does anyone else wish Jeff Bailey was on the roster and playing instead of Kotsay? 7-9 tonight is a black hole filled with incredible suck.

Kotsay has alot of success VS santana , thats why he's in there

DiceK has been a very good pitcher, absolutely no reason why we cannot win, and no reason why we shouldn't go all out. Not too many games left.

no doubt. but the walks are my biggest pet peeve baseball wise. if you noticed the angels were shutdown wednesday, lester not walking figgins is a big reason for that dice k will put him on freely once or twice tonight i fear.
