I wouldn't say Kottaras is really struggling. He's got the IsoP and IsoD you want to see, but the net OPS is depressed by his awful .235 BA. The question is, how much of that is him? His BABIP is only .260. I don't know what his baseline is throughout his minor league career, but in June, when it was .300, MLB average, his OPS was .949. I live down south, and I don't have time for ST, so I don't get to see these guys until they are on TV. Anyone been to McCoy lately? Is he making good contact and getting unlucky, or is he an all-or-nothing hitter?

EDIT: His MiLB BABIP is .315. Adjusted for his average, he becomes a .272/.381/.496 hitter this year.

The MLE of that is .237/.322/.421. That's a .743 compared to Tek's .668 right now. That MLE is for a 25 y/o who has yet to hit his prime, so improvement would be a reasonable expectation.

I hate to be the blasphemous one but...

Ortiz ain't getting any younger, and in my opinion he is falling off. Further, he no longer has Manny protecting him and upping his quality at bats.

Which leads me to believe that the PR nightmare of rotating the DH around Teixeira, Youk, and Lowell until Lowell's contract is up might also be an alternative, with Ortiz going elsewhere...

If nothing else, ORS, I would like to see them bring Kottaras/Brown up and cut Cash, just to see what they have.

We know Cash sucks.

God save us NO!

1: Nowhere to play him

2: I don't want to put a guy who already strikes out a lot into a completely different league

3: But mostly, nowhere to play him

Kottaras is very inconsistent in the minors. I would imagine it would be magnified at the big league level. He can hit the crap out of the ball when he makes contact, but he is easily deceived and seems to be guessing half the time.

Yeah but he can sure hit the ball.

Can he, or is it more, when he hits the ball it sure goes far?

A man can dream' date=' no?[/quote']

Don't mean to be condescending or anything but if you could dream of having any player for the Sox it would be Adam Dunn?

I would love for the Sox to get Ryan Braun somehow. Not happening though so :dunno:

s*** with losing Manny and Papi struggling I wouldn't be surprised if John-Henry unvails Barry Bonds pretty soon to Boston....

I doubt it'd really happen, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen.

I'd DIE if he came. I love Josh Hamilton, but Braun is so great. Adds some versatility as well, he can play LF or 3B I think? Unfortunately the only foreseeable scenario where he would move is if he became like Manny. Even so, I believe he just signed a huge contract lately.

GOD no, no Barry Bonds. :(

Yeah, me neither. After getting rid of Manny 'being Manny' issues, I would totally not be surprised if the Sox went and picked up Barry Bonds. What the Sox need to be looking for (and must be) is the negative media frenzy and declining talent associated with Barry f***ing Bonds.

After Manny's negative impact on the clubhouse, Bonds 'team-first' attitude is exactly what this team needs.

Seriously, do you watch baseball? Or do you look up the scores at the end of the night and come here to repeat something smart-sounding you heard in a Red Sox group on MySpace? Joe Morgan knows more about baseball than you, and I wouldn't trust him to remember last year's MVP.

Well, I wasn't really thinking about all players in the realm of player-dom. More just those in the realm of possibility. Adam Dunn is awesome. He's going to hit 40 home runs for the 5th year in a row, consistently has a .380 OBP and a .540 or so SLG, with a small hiccup in 2006. If I could have any player? Not him. But within reason...I'd consider.

Hamilton hit that nice HR against the Yankees last night...sigh... :(

Let it go, buddy. If there's a player in all of baseball who's going to be renewed by his team it's Josh Hamilton.
