Mike and the Mad Dog program has been blasting GB for looking to the future, saying they should have simply made Favre their strarter immediately once he decided to come back.

I applaud them for having the balls to look ahead, not behind. They were not going to be better than last year with Favre...he's decent, he's experienced, but he is aging and I suspect it'll be somewhat more apparent this year.

At the same time, they're not going to win it with Rodgers this year either, IMO. He needs time to learn how to be an effective full time NFL QB.

Gonna be a rough year in cheeseland, but I think they're doing the right thing here.

I've always enjoyed watching Favre play, but now I will enjoy watching him lose. Pennington is gone simply because of his cap number ($6mil i believe) and the fact that he's gone about as far as he can there. Clemmens is their guy for the future, and watching Favre for a year or two can't be all that bad.....although Aaron Rodgers wasn't welcome under Favre's wing, so who knows.

One ironic twist to this story is that the Jets actually wanted to draft Favre in the first round, but lost their first round pick....they planned to take his with their 2nd if he was still there but Atlanta grabbed him one pick before them. Then one of the Jets front office went to GB and traded for him there.........how would things be different if the Jets had him from the beginning?

All of the pressure is on Favre here....Manjudas' system is much more complicated and Favre has a lot to learn and a lot to adapt to...although the Jets spent a lot to have a great (on paper) o-line......so he should have the time he needs. The ballwashing will be through the roof, but that's to be expected because what else have the Jets had to get excited about. I love all the talking heads predicting now that the Jets should win the AFC East......last time I checked 'lord Favre' lost to the pats 35-0 with a much better team than the one he'll be on this year!

Favre gives them the best chance to win this year.

Rodgers does for the next five.

I believe I read somewhere that the Jets would owe the Packers three first round picks if they decided they wanted to trade Favre to Minnesota. Not sure if there's a similar clause for the Bears.

That would be understandable considering how QB starved that division is. Its actually a smart move if the Packers put that clause in.

Exactly...yet they don't, IMO, seriously contend for a title with either of them this year, so the future is now. As a non-GB fan I can say I like that approach. If I were a GB fan? Not so sure.

favre was offered 25,000,000.00 to stay home by the team who was an 8 pt home favorite to win the NFC title game last year and went to overtime but lost.

they were that close.

i sincerely feel if they were going to be better with favre playing there then he would still be in greenbay but they moved him for essentially nothing, they had no choice, the flannerl wearing cheese stinking sweat hogs were screaming at practice yesterday ""WE WANT BRETT""...

I couldnt pick aaron rogers out of a lineup full of chinese waiters but i can tell you he was a 14 point favorite over the red raiders from texas tech in the Holiday bowl and they got their balls kicked in.

Simple plan here is rogers needs to play within himself,he needs to make the timing patterns click and he needs to hold onto the ball, give him a running game and continue playing defense and theres no reason to think that the pack wont be back in the hunt this year.

have you seen the nfc central?

rogers is the best qb in the league and we know nothing about him.

now the jets also improved for the time being but jay greenberg sums up my feelings on this subject in his article in todays post.

I am a GB fan and I think it's the right move. Not for this year, but I really think Rodgers can develop into something special.

If Favre came back it would be incredibly difficult to root for the Packers this season.

I think they'd have been better off if they could get two years out of Favre and then hand the reigns to Brian Brohm, personally. I've never been all that big on Rodgers. I hope for the Packers sake I'm wrong though.

The cover of Madden, as it will come out, is Favre in a Green Bay uniform. EA Sports is putting a download-able cover for Madden online so you can slip it in the plastic slot if you want to. There will also be a download on XBOX Live so you can update the rosters to have Favre on the Jets.

I'm sure they will eventually change the cover. The first shipments, though, will have the old one.

A few years ago for the EA Sports NHL game they had Dany Heatley on the cover. Well, then he got into the wreck that killed his teammate and the copies of the game after that had Joe Sakic on the cover.

This move really really sickens me. Sickens me so much I lose sleep over it.

How can one of my all-time fav players go to one of my all-time hated teams?

Seriously its not right.

hey mr yank, dont feel so bad, green bay offered this fraud 25M to stay home inspite of coming within an OT of winning the NFC,what does that tell you?

it tells me aaron rogers will manage a better game, play within himself and they'll be more consistant.

brett favre eats it the long way.

if manny can wear dodger blue brett favre can wear namath green

i saw dwight evans retire in an oriole uniform,i have a nephew named evan and a neice nicknamed dewey..that isnt funny.not remotely

see kilo,i been telling you as long as i been here that favre is the problem inspite of his gaudy #s.

it took me years to believe that bledsoe was the problem in boston but that vision became very clear as i watched brady,a 6th round draft pic,run the table that year by playing within himself and in the concept of team football...of course brady became all that later in his career but during the 01-02 season he wasnt a 300yrd passer,in fact he had 112 yrds passing in superbowl 36.

call it maturity if you will.

i cant explain it,i can only refer to dan marino warren moon jim kelly and dan fouts as examples.

jim hart was also a guy with gaudy #s that never won s***,how about kurt"'i married a zombie""warner,he was a foot away from ot and a probable loss with the greatest show on turf.

the pack knew what they were doing and i am rooting for them to win the NFC this winter if for no other reason than to expose favre as the douchebag that he really is.

lets look at the qbs who won in recent years.

trent dilfer, brady, elway at the end and playing within himself,it was a denver defense- terrell owens team effort win,the manning brothers, payton who is spectacular but without the chicago qb being horrid, may have had his hands full, big ben roth,a complete stiff who barely had 100yrds passing and eli, again a miracle occured giving the giants the game but eli didnt lose it and kept them alive by not f***ing up...

point is the qb has to play within the system and not needed to be spectacular to win it all.

rarely do 400yrd passers win.

Aaron Rogers is going to Honolulu this February when he gets back from playing in Tampa in Superbowl 43...Meanwhile Jett Favre is going to resemble Todor Zhukov, the former Bulgarian strong man who fell during the fall of the berlin wall in the autumn of 1989..Once loved admired and worshipped by the people, he found himself all alone when judgement day came because he overstayed his welcome and his accomplishments, though vast on paper, were actually more show than substance.

He wont go the way of Erich Honneker, the East German tyrant who beat a jail sentence because of cancer and they wont take him out with a firing squad as they did with Nikolai Ceausescu in Romania..But the statues will be dragged down and his head used as a soccer ball by the youth of Green Bay because when this season is over the Pack fans will finally understand that there was 1 thing holding them back last year and that was #4.
