I think you're guilty of comparing this offense to last year's offense. Whatever the reason, pitching has gotten better this year in the AL. The average team scored 4.9 runs a game in 2007. In 2008, it has only been 4.56.

 

Compared to last year, this offense is kind of average, but relative to the rest of the league in 2008, they're scoring at a good rate.

 

I agree with you there. Overall pitching has become better this year.

 

I do think that overall offense of the league will pick up in summer.

Strongly concur. Any time a guy comes up from AA or AAA and posts an ERA below 4.00 as a starting pitcher, he's done very, very well.

 

FWIW, although Chris Smith is used in low-leverage situations, he's done very well, too.

 

If Boston weren't hitting .227 tonight, it might be a closer game.
