Lugo is having another bad stretch in the field. It's his second one this year already. Last year' date=' I only remember one bad stretch. I still like the guy. I think he has a [b']scrappy[/b] quality.

Emphasis on "crappy".

Maybe... but just going from the GameCast feed, Paps wasn't very closer-ly, either. 9 times out of 10 he gets Polanco there at the end, but it's a lot harder to do when you dig yourself a 3-0 hole.

That game was a roller coaster. Glad I went to last night's game and not this one.

It was a broken bat blooper just over Lugo's glove.

Yeah, clearly no one hit the ball even remotely hard against Paps. And far be it from me to criticize the Insane One. But usually he can miss bats when he needs to, and tonight he didn't. Not his fault, really, as he pitched well enough for the save. But he woulda shoulda coulda gotten the save anyway.

EDIT: ...or at least preserved the tie.

Glancing at the Pitch f/x logs for starting pitchers this morning, Gallaraga got a net +5 calls in his favor while Buchholz got a net -5. The result of starting pitchers alone isn't statistically significant, but +10 calls is enough to reverse the result of a one-run game.

My favorite: strike one to Mike Lowell in the second inning missed the strike zone by a foot. Jim Reynolds was giving Gallaraga the outside corner that he wasn't giving to Buchholz, but calling a strike on a fastball missing the zone high and outside by a foot is crazy.

What a heartbreaking 9th. DAMMIT!

Some one else please start the in-game threads now that my streak is done. Thanks!

Yes, the actual location of pitches relative to the plate is worthless information. Solid line of thinking.

Can't win em all I guess

A poorly hit ground ball

A rushed ground ball

A sac bunt

A routine ground ball

A shattered bat blooper

That's baseball, s*** happens. Leaving Detroit 3-1 would be pretty big anyway, we weren't going to sweep the month of May anyway. Look on the bright side, had the team not rallied back (again), we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

I think even more than Lugo's uselessness Tavarez cost us the game. Tito should have put Hansen in the game at that point, IMO.

Oh, and Buchholz was pretty bad.

I was surprised when I saw we lost 10-9 and Paps got the loss but a little less surprised when I actually saw the highlights and saw the amount of bad luck he got so meh, whatever
