You really think Lowell will be hitting under the Mendoza Line? I definitely agree that Lowell won't match his 2007 batting line, but he'll be an above average 3B.

I'm not sure on that "above-average" thing given his age, the injury disrupting his spring, and his tendency to decline after June.

Why didn't Lowell slide into second? Weird. :dunno:

I think the average OPS for a 3B in the AL was .761 in 2007, I think Lowell can OPS between .770 - .810.

Lowell has just a .768 second-half OPS over his entire career, counting his glory days with the Marlins. :dunno:

Damn. Okajima looks mortal.

Lost in the offensive struggles are three straight great pitching performances.

I dont care what anyone says, Ill take 8IP, 2 ER and 7 IP, 2 R, 13K anyday.

Yeah, I've been thinking to myself for the past few days, "If this is what our pitching is going to look like, we are going to rock." Not that anyone expects Lester and Matsuzaka to go 7-8 scoreless inings every night, but there's no denying that we have a pantry full of pitchers who can lock a game down. Sweet.

If Tito wasn't f***ing around with MDC in the begining of the inning we would still be 1-0.

Lind had a career batting line of .190/.239/.298 vs. power pitchers entering tonight's game. He got his hit on a 96mph fastball...I often fault Tito, but not this time.

JB' date=' what do you think about giving Varitek a new contract?[/quote']

I'd do it, although I'd try to wangle a clause similar to Wakefield's after two more well-paid years. I'm in a minority position, but I'm expecting 3-7 (yes, seven) more pretty good years from Tek counting 2008.

Most analysts would recommend letting him go...few catchers continue to deserve eight-figure salaries as they approach 40.
