What is with defensive indifference with baserunners late in a game? Its tied with a runner on, 2 out in the 9th of a big game. Why let the runner take second? I understand that you want your pitcher focused on the the hitter, but it could be the difference of a single scoring the runner. And you could throw the runner out if he tries. I just don't like giving away second with 2 out in the 9th.

I doubt that they thought he was going to steal, and they weren't ready for it. Either that or they figured that if Barfield went to 2B, they could intentionally walk Martinez to take the bat out of his hands.
