This wasn't a serious post, right? I really do think the Sox will win, but I can absolutely understand how Yankees fans can really think that their team will win.

Uh, yeah. If it didn't turn my insides-out to say it I would regularly say the Yankees are the favorites. Not because I want them to win, or because I think they're better than the Red Sox. They sure as hell are hot over the past few months. They sure got a nice draw against Cleveland--a good team, but who would be shocked if NYY just steamrolled them... seriously--they have a solid pen, tremendous offense and proven veteran leadership. For some reason that doesn't always lead to good things for the Yankees in the post-season, but they're also due, given that they haven't yet won this decade despite numerous opportunities.

Yankee fans have a lot of confidence, and rightly so. In terms of expected win-loss numbers (based on Bill James' pythagorean formula, I believe) the Yankees should have won 7 more games this year than their next competitor (the formula predicts a 99-win season based on their runs scored and given up). Of course, the only team better than that was the Red Sox, who had a predicted record of 103-59--thanks mostly to their amazing pitching.

The Yankees are NOTHING to sneeze at. If the sox were in the same position (hot second half, easy wild card victory, 900+ runs) we would have a lot of confidence. Oh wait, we did do that, in both 03 and 04.

We have the veteran starting pitching' date=' that is for sure. All are very familiar with NY and all have significant playoff experience. That should help against the nubile Guardians.[/quote']

Sounds very familiar. I think I heard it back in 2002, 2003, and 2006

We also heard the same things in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Can someone look those years up for me and tell me the outcomes?

XYZ? I am at this very moment listening to a band called XYZ.

They were a heavy metal band (big hair type) in the late 80's, early 90's. Thier lead guitar player was from my home town and used to take guitar lessons from the same guy as I did...He was 15 I was 20 and I'd sometimes hear the end of his lesson and be embarrassed to play after that because he was like 500 times better than me.

Anyway, I'm not predicting, there is only one team I want to win, and to be honest if it ain't the Sox I could not care less who wins.

the yankees are favored to win the world series as they have been each and every year since 1997.

LaRussa? He's lost 4-1, 4-0, and 4-0 in three WS with teams that won 104, 103, and 105 games respectively.

I agree with this. My prediction was for fun more than anything. I only want one team to win, and I think they can. But they all have a legit shot. It's just a matter of who's hot over the next 4 weeks. Not who was hot heading in, but who has it from now until the end. Predicting who rides that good streak from now until the end is pure guesswork.

As much as I hate to do this - law of average favors the Yankees. They are sorta due in the postseason.

There - just stop complaining that we are only picking Red Sox to win it all.

It really wasn't much of a serious post. The yankee fans here tend to be smart and they do have good reasoning with their predictions. I am sorry. I should have never said that. I am just so used to the retarded Yankee fans who have no idea what the first baseman's name is, and they think the Yankess are the best team out there. What I'm trying to get at is that people that don't even watch baseball, but consider themselves Yankee fans, would think the Yankees will win it all. Wang could be injured along with Pettite and 7-8-9 slots could be slumping and they would have no idea and say the Yankees will win it all.

I apologize for my comment.

I admitted that I was wrong about his homerun number and I didn't put a lame excuse to why he produced more than I thought. I know that the "formula" may have been a bit dorky but can you please drop it?

That's what makes baseball so frustrating, and so alluring. Out of all the major sports, it's the most difficult to predict, in my opinion.

How exactly are the Yankees "due" in the postseason? That's a logical fallacy...you cannot predict them to win simply because they haven't in the past.

Entries are locked at 3 PM - first pitch of the first game.

I guess I am being pessimistic. Boy - will I not hate a parade that I can see from my office building.

We've learned one thing this season. Between his "Red Sox will win 87 games" prediction and this, Gom sucks at prognosticating.
