The Yankees are unofficially asking the Red Sox to help them in the latest blunder from the scheduling office.

The Yankees are slated to play the Red Sox in the season finale at Fenway in 2008. Considering that next year is the final year of the old Yankee stadium, the Yankees are asking the Red Sox if they would switch the home series the Yankees have with the Sox in August, allowing the Yankees to finish the season at home.

Here's hoping the Red Sox understand the history and tradition of the game, and make the switch.

That's ********, it could have playoff implications.

I say don't do it, Yankee Stadium will get its send off regardless, who says it has to be in the last week of the season?

What playoff implications? Instead of having the series in Yankee stadium in August, it would be in Fenway. Instead of having the last series of the season in Fenway, it would be in the Bronx. You wouldn't be losing any home games, just switching locales.

Thank goodness you don't work for the Sox.

If you want to take things into consideration, here's something they could consider.

Make the sox the home team for the 2 series prior to the last one, flip an earlier date and then flip the last series of the season. I totally understand why the sox wouldnt do it, but it would be the perfect way for the most storied stadium in baseball to go out. With the yankes and their bitter rivals closing out a pennant chase. You figure, a place like Yankee stadium doesnt close its doors every yr. It should be a monumental event. It should end a week prior to the end of the season against Baltimore.

And in terms of the yankees making the playoffs next yr, we shall have to see. Next season should be VERY exciting with all the young blood.

Hey dicksmack, look at how much better the Yanks have played at home this year, what if that series holds playoff implications - say the division or the WC is on the line?

The Yanks have a distinct advantage.

I can't believe you're as dumb as you look here sometimes.

Why should we switch from Fenway to Yankee stadium. The Stadium will get it's send off either way why do they need to play the last series at home. I say don't do it it's just a stupid request by the Yankees and keep the series at Fenway Park. Yankees will cry about it but who really cares anyways.

Did the IQ in Boston drop when I wasn't looking? Please explain to me how a series has playoff implications in September, and not in August? The series in August has every bit of a chance as being important in August, probably more important in August, than the last week. It's not a difference in home games, just timing. There is a very good chance that the series means nothing to one of the teams in September, but the series in August is more likely to be crucial to BOTH teams.

The MLB schedulers could have precluded all of this with a little forethought, but that would be asking to much of Selig's staff. Who cares, the Yankees will play a "final" game in Yankee Stadium next year, whether it is in August or September or October, who cares, it will still be a final game in the stadium.

The current Yankee stadium happens to stand in the shell of the old one, but the House that Ruth Built was razed in 1974. In any case I won't miss visting the dump.

Typical Skankee fan arrogance-"do what we want-we're the legends here."

The same reason why Francona won't normaly call in Papelbon for the eighth, obviously the game's not as important in the 8th than the 9th :D

I'll slow down so you can try to keep up.

Let's use this year for example.

The Red Sox enter the series with the Yankees in August with an 8 game lead. Doesn't seem to have much implication for the division, as even if the Yankees sweep it only results in a 5 game lead.

Cut to the last week of the season (upcoming). It appears the lead in the AL East will have shrunk to a paltry 1 or 2 games, with a series in the Bronx forthcoming. Who has the advantage heading into that series? The team who scores nearly 100 more runs at home, or the visitors?

In other words, the reace will have a clearer picture come the end of September. In '05 it came to the fianl week, in '04 it was the next to last week, and this will go right to the wire.

Awarding the Yankees crucial home games during this stretch run is ******** and should not happen.

Why do the Yankees have to have the last game of the season at home? Why can't they give the Stadium it's proper send off one week before? I don't see the big deal here.

On top of that, if that game is truly the last game at Yankee Stadium, there are going to be bigger issues.

I thought it would be nice. It would be really nice if they could make it a night game, with all the festivities before. It would be a fitting send off to the most famous ballpark in baseball history.

I agree, but I just don't think it'll be that bad if it's the second to last Sunday.

Last year was a total flip-flop. The five game Boston Massacre Part II rendered our series with you guys Sept 15-17 totally meaningless for BOTH teams. What I'm saying is that either series could be huge, or meaningless, or somewhere in between. MLB is not playing favorites here. Just an oversight on their part. Plus, as long as we keep Arod [big if, I admit], I think we're going back to the double digit lead over you guys next year. This year was a fluke for us, and we still might catch you.
