I think it's funny. If you think in today's day and age that a 10 year old would be disillusioned, You got another think coming. I agree with ARod here, if you want to keep your kid in a bubble, don't bring him to a Sox-Yankee game. You think that kid is being quiet when the Fenway faithful are chanting "Yankees suck"?

Get real. It's hysterical, and if I had an autograph from Ortiz saying Yankees suck, I'd put it up on my wall.

Don't lose sight of the fact that where most athletes don't sign anything, and charge you if they do, Shelley took the time to stop and sign. Sadly, that in itself, should be commended. In the past, that was the norm.

Ahhh, yes.

The misdirection play.

It's great in football.

It's transparent in this forum.

Who here insinuated a kid should be "kept in a bubble?"

Who ever treated it as some heinous act?

Like I said, this shouldn't even be a story, but it has been made one, so the players actions have been questioned. The kid wanted an autograph. In turn, the player was a wise ass to a 10 yr old kid.

Was it "kinda" funny? I guess so.

Was it classless? I think so. Like I asked earlier, would Jetes have done this? Unless the kid was s***ing on Duncan, then he should sign the fkn thing and move on. His actions wreak of PATMG..."pay attention to me, goddamit"....syndrome.

The thing that I get the biggest kick out of here is that some are trying and compare the Yankees suck chant, as performed by idiot fans, to the actions of a MAJOR LEAGUE BALLPLAYER! Then again, maybe he and the drunken or otherwise impaired fans SHOULD be held to the same (minimal) level of scrutiny...after all, both he and the fans are really only observers to the rivalry.

For the record, yesterday I asked my kid, who is a huge baseball fan, what he would have done. He said "Shelly who?" 'Nuff said for me!

You may disagree with what he signed, and that's his prerogative. However, he stopped and signed an autograph. How many ballplayers still do that without charging you?

Fans are funny these days. They want athletes to "man up", but they excuse them for the most weak minded things and in fact think they are so weak minded that they must constantly be "motivated" by the manager. Shelly Duncan admits that playing big league ball is an unlikely dream come true. He needs to start acting like he believe that and knows his place.

Dead on, GOM, it is absolutely his prerogative.

It is his decision whether to sign. He also can decide what type of reputation he'd like to carve out for himself based upon his actions.

Life is full of choices, and he made his.

Shelly Duncan is the scarecrow:

After the photos there was an autograph session in which Shelly, signing for a 6 yr old, wrote "The Wizard of Oz sucks".

I understand your point with most players, but let's be realistic....this is Shelley Duncan, nobody's going to pay for his autograph (especially in the minors)

Just a few thoughts of my own:

1. Who would pay Shelley Duncan for anything, let alone his autograph?

2. Why in the world would a 10 year old Sox fan even want Shelley Duncan's autograph, free or otherwise?

3. Should we give Duncan a pass on his slightly inappropriate joke because we know what kind of scarring can occur when a man has to live with having a woman's name?

4. I think fans that would rather wear a shirt that insults the opponent than wear a shirt that lauds their favorite team are morons.

Just my 2 cents.

No' date=' you're thinking of Ultra-Thin Panty Liners.[/quote']

I think J.D. Drew should be the spokesperson for those.

No way, definitely Maxi Pads.

And all this time you thought he was wearing a cup, didn't you?
