Hey' date=' we have a six game lead, not as big of a deal, but what kills me is that this is the closest thing to playoff baseball and we look like a bunch of scared little girls.[/quote']

Your two best against our 2 and 3. Tomorrow our best against your 3. Should be interesting as you guys seem to own Wang and we have owned Schill of late. Just to be screwy, watch it be 2-1 or something.

whatever it is, the odds are still in New York's favor. The Yankees have momentum, the Sox are bending over with no lube

they know how to beat Tampa and Chicago but have showed no fight in a pressure-filled situation against a desperate team

this series officially makes me nervous for the playoffs

Just came home from the game. Becket got hit pretty hard and he was lucky the game was close. Papi's home run landed on our left side tier. I pretty much followed the path of the ball - it was the only cool thing that happened to me in the stadium. Lots of ejections ( mostly Sox fans).

This has nothing to do with the way I feel about Wang, but you don't not consider Pettitte the ace?

Enough.

Do you ever post anything intelligent?

I LOVE IT!!!

Anyways, I was at both games and going to the finale tomorrow. I definitely see the game better at the stadium than on TV. Some observations:

1) Arod's homerun was tattooed. There was no doubt about it the second he hit it. It didn't have a lot of height, but he hit it so hard, you knew it was gone.

2) The Red Sox were completely lucky to stay in game 2. Clemens made one mistake, but he definitely didn't have his good stuff. He was consistently high in the zone, but the ump definitely had a high strike zone for both sides.

3) Rivera has shifted away from the inside half of the strike zone. This is extremely impressive. For his entire career, he lived on the inside part of the plate with his cutter. Now he is backdooring his cutter, and the Sox haven't adjusted. If you have to cover both sides of the plate against Rivera, you're f***ed, plain and simple.

4) Ortiz is the Anti-Christ. Everyone was holding their breath that we could get out Pedroia, and leave Ortiz on deck to end the game.

5) Torre was right to bring in Farnsworth when he did. A three run lead is when you can trust Farnsworth. If he gets you through the inning, great. If not, you had Rivera to give you a four out+ save if needed, which it was.

6) Francona is absolutely horrible in managing the pen. He actually may be as bad as Torre. He stays with your guys WAY TOO LONG. Beckett was getting hammered in the sixth, everything was smoked, and he got lucky. Matsui crushed it right at Drew. Posada hammered him, and Giambi did too. The fact that he got out of the inning without the Yankees scoring is inconsequential. He was running on fumes, his velocity was down 3 MPH from the beginning, and Tito kept him in. The next inning, Arod destroyed his pitch. Blame this game on Tito, you almost stole it. He kept Matsuzaka in too long, and Damon killed him. You have a good pen, why the f*** isn't he using it? I, for one, am extremely glad he doesn't.

7) If we see you in the playoffs, you are done. You match up very bad against us. Beckett may look like a Cy Young candidate against the rest of baseball, but against us, he looks like s***. Matsuzaka and Wakefield are your best chances against us.

8) You will still win the division, and we will get the Angels. f***. LOL!

Wang entered the season as the ace and with 15 wins and a sub 4 era he has done nothing to lose this distinction.

see the future without manny ??

it aint pretty

we lose a lot of swagger when this guy is out.

no hit by that gutless ass clown for 5 f***ing innings??

we owned his ass religiously when he was still effective but without manny we do nada

francona looked rough and pissed last night for the 1st time ive ever seen.

good

6 up and the division is still ours whether we win today or not

you ny fans spin it any way you like but math is on my side.

theres just too much ground to make up here in a month unless we lose a couple of pitchers, papi and we end up with 6 double headers because of the weather.

Crunch, you are right, math is on your side. You figure the yankees need to finish the sweep today, then sweep you guys in Fenway, then pick up 2 more games in the rest of the schedule, when you guys have a slightly easier September than we do. It isnt likely. BUT, this does remind me a bit of 2004, but reversed. Going into the playoffs, you guys were the better team, but we had the huge early season lead. Role reversal, we shall see how it plays out. But I think it goes to show that we can take down your top 2 pretty easily even while wasting lots of opportunities. And having the Joba fit into the 8th inning has been nothing short of awesome.

I'm a big fan of CMW but Petite's been lights out when we needed him most. CMW might own the most wins on the club but it's obvious to me that Andy gets the game ball when you need the win the most.

Wang had a poor August, but he finished on a high note and typically goes through spurts every 2-3 months or so where he flat out sucks for 2-3 starts. He pitched well last time out, we'll see. Today will be a big one. A win today keeps slim hopes alive for the division. A loss ends all speculation.

The big difference in my opionion is that I still think we have better starting pitching. Every starter has a chance to go 7-8 innings every time out, which is not the case for the Yankees. CMW and Pettite have pitched well this season but I still take Beckett and Dicek over your top two. So now you line up the third starters and it is between Wake and Clemens which statistically speaking have been a wash, I think Wake is a little more valueable only because he can pitch into the 7th more often than not. Schilling is better than Hughes right now expeirence wise and stats wise. Schilling has actually pitched very solidly since coming off the disabled list, and with Hughes it seems its all or nothing which is not what you want with a starting pitcher really. Also noting that it has been mostly nothing lately with him. When it comes to the 5th starter I will take my chances with Lester/Tavarez over Mussina. He has been horrible in his last three starts and has only pitched well for like a five start stretch in late July and August.

Bulpen wise I think the Red Sox have a slight advantage. I think Papelbon is better than Rivera, the numbers back me up on that. I think that if Joba can continue to be lights out than the set-up situation is a wash. Okajima/Gange/Delcarmen form a pretty nasty set-up trio and let's not forget Mike Timlin either, he has been solid for about two months.

No, no, you have to put in Jacksonese. He's been amazing, a la Vizcaino.

but when you put the lineups together and the fact that we can manhandle anyone you throw out there' date=' while lately the sox have struggled against good pitching, it makes a huge difference.[/quote']

Does manhandling include the seeing eye dog needed on those singles in the only rough inning for Beckett? Just wondering.

Good point, ORS, the Damon 2 RBI single was a seeign eye hit, as was another hit that inning. Manhandled? right.

On the other side of the coin, and I'm not doing a woulda, coulda, shoulda, the Sox hit some balls very well that were caught. It's all part of the game.
