hypothetically speaking, even if Gagne wasn't "on board" with the success of this team, the guy is still playing for a contract next year, whether it be with the Sox or another team so its not as if he isn't trying

This team starts making its playoff push NOW. And I'm on board. Anyone else?

Funny you mention the start of the "playoff push ."

On the Sox day off last week, being up 6, I was out with a buddy having a few beers and said it feels to me like the push starts tomorrow...it just seemed to shape up that way.

That being said, to have two devestating losses against the O's really hurts. I'll be honest, year in and year out I fear the Yankees, no matter how far out they are, no matter how bad they play at times...probably a product of growing up in the New Haven area where tons of Yankee fans were constantly breaking our balls, unprovocated of course and seeing many a collapse.

However, as constituted I like this team. The piitching staff is still one of the best, I feel the BP will right itself, and I have to believe some of the clutch hitting we're accustomed to will come back into play.

I'm cautiously optimistic, and yeah, I'm looking over my own shoulder, but I'm on board.

I still feel as if it would take a monumental effort to continue to overcome this hole. It has taken a ridiculous post ASB record to get within 4, and we need to continue it as you guys take your turns against the shittier teams of the league. Color me excited, but cautiously optimistic for the yankees.

If someone would have told you guys in mid-May that you would play .500 ball the rest of the way [till this point], and that the Yankees would catch absolute fire and run down the lead to 4 in the second week in August, most of you would have laughed at the possibility.

I tend to disagree that "most" would have though that scenario impossible. It depends to a degree on the age of the individual and their experiences as a Sox fan. Anyone old enough to remember, vividly, 1978 and everything since, would have said it's not over till it's over. Personally I never counted the Yanks out and said more than once that this will be a race before it's over. Unfortunately it looks like I was right.

I didn't say it was impossible, just highly improbable. You know what makes 1978 so great [from our end, at least]? It was highly improbable. So was 2004 from your end. Nothing in sports is impossible.

Jacko, I disagree. Four games, when we have six left to play with the Sox is highly possible. If we win this series, and the Sox lose theirs, its down to three games. I would say that making up four games in seven weeks is not a hard thing to do at all.

We own the the D-rays, and the the games are at Fenway Park where we have a rediculous record against them. It would be God awful pathetic on our end if we lost a series the the Devil Rays at Fenway Park. The rays pitching is just the worst I think I can remember this season and we should not have a problem scoring 25+ runs in this series. I will say though this team is way to talented to continue to play and lose games like they have in august. I am fully confidant that Gange will find himself and be a big contributer in our rock solid pen the rest of the way.

The Yankees can not play this well the rest of the season which is another reason why I am very optimistic about holding on to the divison. We play so many home games towards the end of the season which really IMO gives us this divison. There is one factor that would absolutely put us over the top; if David Ortiz would be David Ortiz for the remaining six weeks of the season. He just hasn't been himself with all the injury problems and his lack of power has be very detramental to the offensive success of the ballclub.

but you did say most of us would have laughed at the possibility...thinking something is not possible is tantamount to believing it impossible.

Anyway, semantics aside, my point was that those who've been Sox fans for a long time never get comfortable with any lead and I believe that sentiment was echoed loud and often in this forum a couple of months back.

I, for one, echoed that sentiment as well. no lead is safe until its mathematically impossible to overcome

I was 6 years old in 1978, and have no real recollection of it. I didn't start watching baseball until I was 11.

However, if you guys collapse, it will be the biggest thing I've seen you guys lose. I'm rooting for my personal history, lol.

You think a slow painful death at the hands of under-producing players and inept management is a bigger defeat than the throat stabs of '86 (when I as -1) and '03?

This is all hypothetical of course, the Red Sox will not squander this lead!

If the Sox were overtaken by the Yankees in '07 it would not come close, for me anyway, to 1986 or 2003. In 1986 I was well old enough to feel the true pain of that collapse. 2003 was the most suffering I've ever felt from a sporting event...bar none.

A collapse over a longer period of time, which happens consistently, but gradually, doesn't hurt like the sudden collapse does. But then you Yankee fans know all about that, so I'm preaching to the choir.

Interesting. I just read Kilo's first post and I was thinking the same exact thing. I just got back from DC, so no more losing for the Sox. Wooooooo!

Anyway, I was at the rubber game of the Orioles series at Camden. Right after Millar hit the walk off I was like "f*** this s***. It is so f***ing on, mother f***ers." Like Kilo, I'm sick of being negative. The playoff push starts now.

Well, I remember the collapse of 1978 -- especially the Sept massacreand the playo-ff And the pain of 1972, 1974, 1986 and 2003. And I remember the euphoria of 1967 and 2004...

We have nothing to do with it -- as much as we'd like to feel otherwise. Unless 38pitches is posting.

So sit back and enjoy -- and hopefully we get the warm fuzzies of 67 and 04 ....

Loving hurts worse than winning feels good. All part of being a Sox fan.

At least they did it IN my lifetime. For awhile, I wasn't sure they would.

sadly, the guy who s*** the bed for them doesn't get a regular turn in the rotation

Ok Im settling down back to reality after seeing a bitter loss, that was so close to back to back walkoffs. The Sox still took 2 out of 3 (against Tampa's best 2 pitchers), one of the wins being a dramatic walkoff, and were able to gain a game on the Yankees which remains at 5.

Dice wont be like this on a regular basis and just one inning did him in. The offense didnt let up after being pushed back to a 6-0 deficit and the Sox bullpen stood their ground to give the team a chance. The matchups have set up nicely for this gritty 4 game series against the 1st place Angels. A wknd that will feature the debut of the best pitching prospect in the minors (Bucholz), and Wily Mo being moved so they can upgrade the bench with Bobby Kielty

still gotta like the late inning rally, even if they couldnt come all the way back, even if it was against a s*** bullpen

these guys need some urgency

maybe missing ny for the last couple months has taken their edge off

it seems we've been on cruise and caution forever

we've rested guys who were banged up,shelved pitchers until they were 110% and then rested them some more and we havent abused anyone in the pen for a change

this wouldve been a lot sadder had ny not lost

fukin dice was 300/100 favorite today which is about as big a favorite as you'll ever see

he has been prone to the big inning this year

lets hope he grabs his command up a bit earlier in the innings when hes struggling....

hello tek and translation team??

outside the crooked # he tosses up from time to time hes been pretty good

not great but fairly solid and very durable

you know what really sucks

i'm taking my kid in fri nite and i went thru a veteran broker ive used 1000xs

i couldnt believe what i was hearing on the phone

oh the baltimore game on the 31st we have standing room for $108.00 a piece

275 for this 350 for that

ohh those are a nickel a piece if you buy 4......

when i hung up i felt like i got f***ed by the russian army but its an obligation i have to meet every year and the kid deserves to go....

then i look at the bronx for the sox series and i really want to puke

3 pages of tix between 40.00-75.00

not great seats but very reasonable and parking in the lot by the outfield was 12bucks last year and i threw the kid a fin and he put me near the exit

12 bucks in ny

40 here last time i paid

i park in coolidge corner take the C train in and then take a cab back to brookline after the game...40 bucks??

habib best give head if he wants to get 40.00 from me to park

big smile big roll of 20s eyes like a shark, completley f***ing vacant of life

takes the keys and puts you over by the suv's and the mass pike fence

smells like a combo of ass armpit and kibbi and cant be found at 1130 as you stagger out of who's on 1st wondering if indeed habib worked at the lot

You're priceless SP. You make me laugh in the crappiest of days and the darkest of hours. Mohammed tried to roll me in Manhattan once. Was driving a southern car and was picking up a friend from work on 3rd st..4th st....I don't know some numbered street and I was going to be about 2 minutes. Pulled into the parking spot and Zenab tells me 30 bucks. I'm like...what? He points to the "Special Event" parking sign. It's a Wednesday and they haven't had a special event there since the homeless dude who drinks Ripple danced nude to Macarena four years back.

I say to Abdul-Baari as he looks at my plates and I look at him...."ah...yeah...the car is from the South...I am not".....I start to back out and he says...5 dollar. Sold Abdul Jabbar.
