He walked the bases loaded after cracking the 100 pitch mark. He had a lefty up who already drove in a run with the only other hit. Tito should have been alert and had Lopez face Pierzynski. Instead, DiceK give up the hit and the inning continues.

I've never seen anyone with such fluctuating control.

No. No, wait. Josh Beckett looked like this at times last year. Except he generally was closer to the plate.

He had control problems in a couple of games most notably against the Yankees, but Dice k has had these meltdown innings all year long.

Torre burns certain bullpen guys, thats his niche. Tito's is pulling pitchers after the fact it was obvious to do so before

uh-oh, Sox down by 1 run. Hopefully not too looming for this team who have lost 7, count them, 7 consecutive 1 run losses

Does anyone doubt the need for a pitcher when our #2 starter is prone to total meltdowns like this?

we need a pitcher but we also need a hitter , 2 run on 8 f***ing hits , you cant expect your pitcher to throw shutouts all the time

Tito is playing DiceK for the long term. He needs to go through this s***--apparently--if he's to be an elite MLB pitcher. His stuff is tremendous (as evidenced by the K's) but the control is totally different than it was in Japan. Some of that is a strikezone thing, an umpire thing, and a confidence thing. He seems like he's too arrogant in terms of looking to make the perfect pitch at all times. He regularly breaks off sliders on 3-1 counts and gets them over. Last year Beckett would throw his pitch no matter what, and paid the price with walks and HRs. He's figured out how to mix up in-the-zone attacks with out-of-the-zone attacks.

I am confident that dice-k will figure it out. When he's on he's virtually untouchable.

Consider this...

With Dmats throwing today and Beckett throwing tomorrow, it is reasonable to assume that DiceK is the beginning of a new turn of the rotation. If the sox lose tonight, it is very possible that the sox will be under .500 in this turn of the rotation. This is why you need a new pitcher. Because you are relying on Beckett and DMats to win and then hoping to slug your way to a victory in one of the following 3 games that the shitbums pitch. If either loses, then you are doomed to a poor turn.

Delcarmen looks like a different pitcher poise wise than he did last yr. He looks meaner.

He's 25 now, it is likely maturity and experience at AAA than helped. His stuff has always been good, but he is really just attacking the zone right now. God I hope that craig hansen has a similar growth.

you better hope his "growth" is in testicular size, because that kid has no guts.

If your offense regularly scores 1 or 2 or 3 runs in a game it doesn't matter how good the pitching is. The pitching on this team is deep enough when Schilling comes back and with the possibility of a guy like Buchholz coming up to help from the pen. Most of the players I've heard talked about are essentially Joel Pineiro but on other teams. There are a few who would likely be more than just consistent .500 pitchers, but not enough to put a whole lot of prospects or money into. People were advocating to sell the farm for Barry Zito last year and would likely do the same this year if he didn't totally s*** the bed. The point is that decent pitchers are around and pitchers often considered "good" can give up bombs and 7 ER starts just like Tavarez and Wakefield and Igawa and Mussina. Gabbard, Hansack, Snyder, Pineiro, Lester are all options.

The issue is that there is no chemistry in the offense. People are batting all over the place, Drew is leading off, no, wait it's Crisp, no, Lugo, Pedroia, you want a shot? Youkilis. The only guys who don't move are Manny and Papi, and I think that should change too, except for the L,R,L thing. There is no power from the 3/4 spots and even LESS than no power from the 5 spot. Youkilis does his darndest, but he's just not a HR hitter. Drew is supposed to be driving the ball, but he hasn't been and doesn't look like he's capable of it. Lowell is decent, Tek is a good hitting catcher all things considered, Lugo and Crisp are turning it around. The pieces are there, but there just isn't that 'click'.

I can imagine the piss dribbling down your leg being put into a Sox Yankees game at his age.

He will develop guts when he develops the ability to use his stuff. You know those go hand in hand. He happens to be able to throw 98 mph. If he gets it together he will have no trouble with confidence.

This has loss written all over it. Welcome to the beginning of the end for these 2007 Red Sox, unless Theo makes a move. Ah, .500 ball, how frustrating you are.

Hmm where have we seen this before... the bullpen late in the game holds the line while the offense does crap on a stick

Every other recent year it was a matter of figuring out when Ortiz and Manny were coming up and counting on a run or two if needed. This year the distribution is scattered and inconsistent.

tell that to Kyle Farnsworth. Worlds of talent. Tiny testicles.

I'm surprised that we never hear Tina Cervasio off camera just saying "yeah they suck" about the Red Sox. It must be hard for her to stay chipper while they suck.

Or, she might just not care...
