with bad knees and all' date=' cool lets risk an injury for a run[/quote']

so they should watch how they run him since he has bad knees? This is a split second decision on a ball that wasnt hit right at the RFer, it was a bloop and hence Rios had to go get it on the diagonal, get all his momentum and throw. It was a good call, and even if Ortiz has bad knees, you need the run.

Get all his momentum? Its not like he has a noodle arm and its crisp running around the bases

If Ortiz has bad knees? Wheres the if? He's been dealing with a torn meniscus this season

you have to send him. 2 outs in the inning. Just had to.

No way...I hold him up, bases juiced, pinch hit switch-hitting Tek for Mirabelli. You never make the 1st or 3rd out at home or 3rd...it's like the cardinal rule of baseball.

You dont have the proper saying. You NEVER make the 1st or last out at 3rd. You never make the 1st or 2nd out at home.

Jacko's right, you send him there. Rios has a good arm, but it took an accurate throw to get him. If it's offline a little, he makes it. And, the Belli was on deck, which means the odds of getting him home from 3rd with 2-down is slim.

That may be the saying...but I just can't see how you'd possibly send him in that situation. The play wasn't even CLOSE. He was out by a good 3 or 4 feet. Mirabelli (or Tek) has a better chance of driving that run in than Ortiz has of getting home from 2nd on a ball hit to Rios.

actually, Rios has a better chance of throwing that ball off line than Mirabelli or Tek do of driving the run home.

I don't dispute that...but even a non-perfect throw gets Ortiz there. The guy runs like he has a piano on his back normally, let alone when he has a torn meniscus or whatever. If the play at home was close...I'd give 'em the benefit of the doubt, but like I said before, he was gone by a good 3 or 4 feet hence the extremely awkward slide. A perfect throw from the cutoff man could have had him.
