There's some Red Sox fans who might think that Youkilis and his carreer best first half (of the season) stats should be named the Sox MVP for the first half of the season, on the other hand there are Sox that can't wait to kick Julio Lugo out of town for his carreer worst first half of the season, but are Youkilis stats over Lugo the difference maker, NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND, In general Youkilis has better stats Lugo, but the difference its a lot smaller than anyone might think, Lets look at the main stats. Youkilis has 50 runs scored to Lugo's 36, Youkilis has 45 RBI to Lugo's 40 Youkilis has 42 bases on balls to Lugo's 31 and Youkilis has stike out 40 times to Lugos 43. Taking in consideration the position each play and a carreer best to carreer worst Youkilis isn't the Sox MVP.

Can't stand the guy, can you Scaff?

Comparing the value of two players when one is 30 runs over replacement and the other is -8 below is kind of silly if you ask me.

Are you sure that you're not just trying to rationalize the fact that you once said Youkilis is a bench player at best?

I'm looking at these "basic stats" that you laid out and I don't see a batting average, an OBP, a SLG, nor an OPS. So, I'll provide those for you:

AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS

Youkilis: .325/.420/.498/.918

Lugo: .201/.273/.300/.573

You left out a big part of the basic stats that prove to make quite a difference, didn't you? It's also good to note that Lugo's RBIs come at the expense of an out...mostly the RBI groundout. I just don't think you can stand Youkilis.

Who cares? Lugo/Youkilis... 2 players with seasons going in opposite directions, and this is your best jab to prove some fans wrong that Youk isnt the 1st half MVP?

Honestly, Im not surprised that Scaffolds made a thread like this. Youkilis has been a solid player his first 2 seasons as a starter, but no he should leave the team or be demoted to the bench... sorry not buying those 2 options happening anytime soon

To be fair the Red Sox under Theo so far, have not done a good job of developing Latin players or any hitters who have great tools but no idea how to use them. Its certainly possible that the Sox aren't doing a good job of developing these players.

But to turn it around and say try to imply that Lugo had even close to the type of first half that Youkilis had is simply outrageous.

Saying that Latin players aren't treated properly in the Sox system is one thing, and who knows it might be valid. But turning that into some sort of hatred for every white player who takes walks, while falling in love with every player who comes from Spanish speaking country is taking it too far.

Scaffolds wrote me that he will not be posting here anymore. He wrote that he only posts here as a "service" to the board. As a condition of the service that he is providing, he's made it clear that we cannot question him or his record.

If people beg him to come back, he might resume his "service".

If that is true, sorry Scaff but this is a forum. Not the board where everything one poster says is the bonafide truth and cant question him at all. Oh yea I'll be begging for his "services", whatever that might be...

700....you don't think that has anything to do with his recent quad injury?
Everyone has aches and pains during the season. It has to do with the fact that he is not a .330 hitter and that he has very little power.

There is a huge difference between aches and pains and an injury which can actually hamper your performance. Youkilis generally plays through anything and was held out nearly a week. I think its safe to say that what he has was a bit more than your run of the mill aches and pains.

if he's injured, he should be DL'ed. Other than that, it's an excuse for the ups and downs of the season. I can remember Yaz taping his hand to the bat because his wrist was so sore that he couldn't hold the bat. His manger didn't whine or make excuses for him. They all get knicked up and it does indeed affect their performance, but even with a strained quad, he should have more than 1 HR in 123 ABs.

You've made it clear you don't like Youkilis for whatever reason, but to imply that his manager is making "excuses for him" is crap. Its merely been reported that he has a strained quad, and others have opined, correctly I might add, that it could be effecting Youkilis' performance. Neither Francona, nor Youkilis have done any whinning or made excuses.

Injuries are not excuses, they are reasons to explain why a player might not have performed of late, and why its reasonable to believe that the player might perform better once the injury passes.

Youkilis will never be a 30HR guy but he doesn't have to be to be a good player, especially when he's only paid $300K a year. Guys with 15-20HR power frequently have long stretches where they don't hit a lot of home runs.

Why despite his strong performance proving that he's a solid major league player, people continue to hate on Youkilis is beyond me.
