C.C. Sabathia CLE 15 15 9 2 0 1 1 107.1 108 42 38 11 16 96 3.19 1.16 .265
Carlos Zambrano CHC 15 15 7 6 0 1 0 97.1 93 53 49 15 43 74 4.53 1.40 .255

Why do people want Zambrano over C. C.?

Zambrano has had a relatively lower BABIP then Sabathia but I dont see it affecting his play that much when it gets to average.

43 walks versus 16? Yuck.

Last night, watching the game when we had the 1-0 lead heading into the third....as I was watching him pitch, he just looked old. His body language told the story also. He just moved around sluggish, his arm speed looked sluggish, hell he even looked sluggish taking signs from home plate. Just looking at him on the mound......not even throwing the ball or velocity wise.....made me think he was old.

I wonder if there is something wrong....there has to be right, because something about his performance last night....and a week ago made me think there is something wrong.

I think it can be a couple of things....

A) Hes hurt

B: Hes old

C) That POS changeup hes throwing sucks and its getting rocked.

D) Missing location with his fastball.....or fatball after last night.

E) Maybe there is still some letdown about the no-hitter a little while back.....

I am not sure this should be a huge concern though. We know Curt Schilling.....hes sitting in the locker room right now looking for any way possible to get amped up again. He LOVES it when people question him and his ability. He wants us to write him off and say hes done and all washed up. IMO the things that are bothering Curt are options C,D and E from above....and I think he will get back on track soon.

Donut, I'm not one of them. I would much rather have Sabathia, especially with all the good lefthanded hitters in the AL East, and the guy knows the hitters better than Zambrano ever could. I just wonder if Theo is going to make a play for one of them this winter.

Chin, let's wait until we see the results of the MRI; could be there is something wrong with his arm. Hopefully there isn't and those C, D, and E scenarios you listed are the culprits.

Huh? I hope he's hurt. If he's pitching like a POS while not hurt we have a big problem. If he's hurt, we can worry a little less about his poor performance and look forward to better days until he's better. Besides, right now, this team really is better off without him. Lester could give us as good or better than what Schilling's giving us right now.

Without Schilling it creates a hole in our rotation unless the front office is finally convinced that Lester should be brought up---which I think that's where he should be anyway.

Actually, if you've been watching, his change has been a good pitch for him. His fastball is what is getting rocked. He definitely ironed out the kinks with his change because i was advocating that he just ditch that pitch back in april when it was getting hammered and since then he has shut me up. He is using it well, locating it well, and getting outs with it. The problem is his fastball, which worries me as far as this whole MRI thing is concerned.

Schilling is the only pitcher of note to ever come back from a labrum tear. I'm thinking he isn't going to be your Clemens or Wells who pitches deep into old age and hey, if this MRI comes back bad, he could be done. I think his labrum might be fraying or worse... I'd be surprised if the MRI comes back clean, it might but I don't know. That would explain the sluggishness, because that brings with it a great deal of pain. I don't know, but I'm worried.

Good thing we have Lester, thats all I have to say. Our rotation is a position of strengh for us and I'm confident Lester could fill in for just about anyone outside of Beckett/ maybe Dice-K.

Well, with Schilling right now there's a black hole in our lineup. He can't go out and pitch like this everyday. We have a good offense when it's clicking, but once you're that far down you send out your mop-up relievers to finish the game out; essentially throwing the game away.

If Schilling's hurting Lester will be called up. And if they don't want to use Lester just yet, I want to see Buchholz. He can dip his feet in the water. If he can't handle the pressure and/or some adversity if he gets hit hard, then he's not a good prospect.

I hope this is something a DL stint can fix. If he can come back mid to late July and provide some decent outings down the stretch it'd be cool.

Bring up Lester and promote Buchholz.

I only caught the last 3 innings of the 1-hitter, but I was genuinely surprised he was dialing it up to 93-94 there in the 9th. Maybe he hurt himself airing it out?

I'd be fine with a DL stint of a couple of weeks or so. But if Schill goes down for any extended length of time, I'm not that high on Beckett, DiceK, Wake, Tavarez, Lester..... yet.

We kind of know what we'll get from those guys. The only consistent one has been Beckett and there's still an ounce of me waiting for the other shoe to drop. Wake's Wake. Dice K has basically been Wake as far as consistency - extremely good some starts, so so some others. Tavarez is pitching way over his head right now and Lester will be on pitch counts so I don't expect more than 6 innings out of him right away if much at all.

Then again, come the postseason, I wasn't that high on Schilling this year anyway. Pauley/Gabbard and Hansack have all pitched great in the minors, but they all have issues. The one I trust the most is Gabbard and that's only because he's a lefty.

I don't know. I just hope at some point a relatively effective and consistent Schill comes back.

Theo's already got a bat to get at the trading deadline. Add a starter to the list it's almost impossible.

Agreed. That and the fact I don't think it would kill us to have a lefty on the rotation. I know there's Lester but I'd rather see someone a bit more seasoned such as Sabathia take the mound.

Maybe get Schilling out, push Wakefield to the bullpen, and take C.C. and call up Lester so we've got 2 lefties working the rotation?

The Green Monster says hello. If opposing teams load their lineups with righties against our lefty pitchers they could be hitting balls off of the Monster more than we'd like. This is why I'm weary of having too many lefties in the rotation.

Good point.

I called this yesterday before the report came out. He looked so good in the 1 hitter then looked like garbage the next two starts. I knew he was hurt cause you don't lose 5MPH of your fastball in two weeks. Hopefully he will be able to straighten this out and it won't be long term, if it is long term, time to start looking for a SP on the market.
