He was very impressive going 5 for 5 tonight. I can tell that he has become the hitter he had been projected to be, possibly even better. He struggled in April, but that is what to expect from a rookie. He is on the fast train now. I hope he continues this down the stretch and I think he will.

It's been a complete transformation. Where he once looked nervous and scared at the plate, he now stands confident and ready to kick some f***ing ass. Plus he's hitting with a ton more power.

AL Rookie of the Year anyone? I thought it was going to be Matsuzaka (and it obviously still could be), but Pedroia has been doing much better than expected.

If jsinger were still around I would give him props.

Did jsinger teach him how to hit?

There have been plenty of us who have been unwaivering behind Pedroia--even when he was hitting hard line drives into outs last year.

But we wouldn't want to bring Ellsbury up--who is a month younger than Pedroia--with fear that he's too young and too vulnerable. ********. He was every bit the college player that Pedroia is and has done very well in the minors.

I concur with that, Ellsbury as well

There's absolutely no reason not to give Ellsbury a shot. If he completely bombs out, we are in the same position that we were before with Crisp and WMP. I'd bring him up immediately.

You can't just bring guys up to replace starters making 5 million dollars a year. You just can't. I'm not saying I agree with it, but no team does it.

I wish Coco or Lugo came up with a mystery injury and until they do, they are here to stay.

WMP's salary is little more than the league average, so replacing him would not be a big deal.

As Coco comes closer and closer to the mendoza line... Sox should start him out there every day, just because he's making $5 million?

I'm not saying I agree with it, but yes. That's what they will do.

Pirates are benching Wilson as we speak, and he's making $7 million. And Im sure there has been other times with players getting paid in neighborhood of $5 million and still getting benched in favor of another player. Im sorry I just dont see the Sox sitting idle while Crisp stays in his season long slump, fans become more relentless at him like Bellhorn in 05, that theyll keep him as the everyday center fielder until they trade him or he gets injured

I'm sure they would rather trade him before benching him. And it will be Crisp too. Lugo is too new and expensive to bench, but Crisp has been here long enough. I would almost put money on him being traded at the deadline. But sit he will not. That would only hurt his trade value anyway.

Re: Ellsbury

Why bring this guy up until he proves he can hit AAA pitching consistently?

Why bring him up if you have a guy in WMP who can give you an .800 OPS when given regular playing time, even though he NEVER GETS IT?

I wouldn't mind seeing Ellsbury, but I think he should be the last option, albeit hes a decent one. Pedroia is really coming into his own and looking like a solid player. He might not keep it up all season because most rookies tend to drift a little in the 2nd half, but hes really showing he belongs.

Kilo, your avataar is superb!

Hate his swing and approach....love the results. He just looks like the type of player who should play for the RedSox......solid all the way around. Love the cocky attitude and hard nosed personality he brings too....its not the arrogant cocky flair like arod, its more of the type of attitude that says "im a gamer, and im not going down easy"

I want Pena to see more time but he cant play CF worth a lick. Coco has been excellent in the field though' date=' saving a bunch of runs.[/quote']

Well that's just really not true.

about a month ago i was of the same persuasion, but at this point it's very clear that coco is not coming out of his funk anytime soon. As much as i am against WMP, at this point even i would take him over having to watch coco play everyday.

is he league average in CF? or no not quite. lol

WMP is a league avg CF.

That first sentence is just a false statement.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't see Kilo's post.

Coco Crisp has been absolutely terrific this year in CF.

.594.

That is totally unacceptable. Even for a defensive ace.

But why sit him the day after he gets two knocks against a pitcher that gave up only 3 or 4 all day. He may be geting hot and he's benched?

Forgive me, but I will remain skeptical of whether Coco Crisp will ever actually get "hot."

I do agree, the timing is a bit weird.

Wasn't this guy supposed to be better than Johnny Damon?

I give you the fact that he is a great defensive outfielder. However, I think I could do better at the plate than this guy. In fact, I think Damon is better from the right side of the plate than him.

You know what's funny? For all our collective money and spending power, we have made more mistakes than good calls the last two years. About the only signing/trade that has worked for both sides has been Abreu for us and Okajima for you. Everything else kinda sucks.
