btw' date=' they need to put a crater in RF too.[/quote']

I remember Abreu was in the same sort of fix and he came around. Drew will, too. Crisp will not, Lugo may not, and Pena is plain s*****. However, our situation is so bad right now that I am actually calling for Pena to be put in CF. He at least may get a hit now and then and with him in the lineup it means Crisp cannot be and cannot be batting leadoff as that stupid bastard of a manager keeps insisting he can.

Take away Lugo's leadoff error and Lowell's error in the 2nd (i still dont know why he even attempted to throw) and Schilling just might have had a solid outing. Mightve helped also to not shake off Varitek. Last night before the killer (3 run HR) Varitek asked for the splitty, nah Schilling wanted the change-up which he left right over the plate. But whose to say the Sox wouldve still scored more than 2 runs? The offense seriously needs to have a pow-wow with the hitting coach. Theyve scored just 2 run in 6 out of the last 8 games. In the meantime facing the likes of Lenny DiNardo and Josh Fogg! The pitching cant always be their safety net, course didnt help setting the tone at the top of the order was Crisp and his .281 obp

Hopefully Beckett can continue his great success and if not too much to ask, Sox score at least 3 runs?

I'd call Ellsbury up if anyone hits the DL. I'd give the kid a shot, and if he's overmatched, I'd return him to AAA when the player returns from the DL.

Is there any site that I can plug the numbers into to figure out based on potential wins and losses?

I was bored a couple of weeks ago on an off-day, so I made a spreadsheet. All you have to do is enter the record for each team. It gives you the current W%, the Sox final record based on a range of W% from .700 down to .500 in increments of .025, the record the Yankees would have get to overtake them at each percentage (+1 win more than the Sox), the W% of that performance, and what that W% would be over a full season. It also has a date function that updates each time you save the file.

The only problem is, it's a 20 KB file, and the site limit for .xls files is 1 KB (Excel files that small don't exist), so I can't attach it. If anyone has Excel and wants it, PM me your email address and I'll send it.

Gentlemen, at the rate we're going our lead will be wiped out by the end of the month. Perhaps yesterday was a lost cause because of Schilling's poor outing, insistence on shaking Tek off, and the hot Rockies bats, but I have insisted that ourt team as presently constituted is not good enough to win the division. From what I see Francona is still wedded to his ridiculous matchups, forgetting that what matched up three years ago doesn't hold up now, benching a hot Pedroia for a slumping Cora is a perfect example of his shoddy thinking. Then we have Crisp as leadoff. How come all of us here know this guy cannot not only hit for us but is an abomination at leadoff, yet Francona cannot or will see it? I suppose the best thing to conclude with is to put this game behind us and hope we brace ourselves and win tonight. That and the fact that Epstein has got to upgrade us as soon as possible. Crisp has got to go.

If that is true, how'd we get here?

Tell you what Coco. You answer my questions and I'll answer yours, though the answer to your question is ridiculously simple.

I strongly doubt the lead goes back to double digits.

are you always this negative fred?

You know redrules, that's a good question and one that I ought to take to heart. No, I am NOT usually this negative; mostly I'm an optimistic person, always was when I was a coach. Perhaps, though, it is the one trait I did not pick up when I became a Red Sox fan seven years ago. Red Sox fans have gone through hell and back over the years but for the most part they have stayed optimistic year in and year out, and I think maybe I have a little to learn about that. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

I just got through watching the special feature section of "The Brooklyn Dodgers--The Original America's Team" for the first time, and it shows how Pee Wee Reese is dying of cancer, Carl Erskine is getting very old, many of my childhood heroes dead or dying, and it brings you to reality that there might be more important things that a Red Sox win or a loss. I think you nabbed me at the right time, and, here goes. I promise I will do all I can to be more positive from here on in. Thanks for helping to wake me up.

You're probably right Schill, but consider this. Suppose we were to go on a nine or ten game winning streak now or in a week or two. It could happen. First things first, though---a win tonight. I think we will get it.
