I didn't turn it on until the end...how bad was Lugo's error? That was the only thing standing in the way of perfection through 8 2/3' date=' right?[/quote']

That was the only thing standing in the way of perfection through 9. Lugo doesn't commit that error, Stewart doesn't bat in the 9th.

You could look at it that way, but it isn't that simple. That changes the way the rest of the game would be pitched which could have meant a hit somewhere else. The only thing you can really look at is the only hit in the bottom of the 9th.

It's the same with Kevin Brown's no-hitter against the Giants 10 years ago. I think the only thing that separated it from a perfect game was a HBP. Yet we still talk about it that way.

Schilling got closer to a perfect game about 6 years ago when Ben Davis bunted with one out in the 8th to break up the perfecto.

Remember Jerry Reuss against the Giants on June 27, 1980? A two out walk in the first on a very questionable pitch and he has a perfect game. s*** like that happens.

The one game I'm completely shut off from' date=' and Schilling pitches a gem. Damn.[/quote']

You'd have been a nervous wreck by the fifth inning yeszir. Not to complain but it would sure have been nice to have, say, three or four runs for a little cushion for Curt. Anyway, we gained a game on Toronto and so we can all go to bed happy tonight.

Just got in from work, and you guys should know that I didn't check the box score before coming to the game thread, I just started reading through the thread from the start of the game and followed the whole thing through until the end. Wow. It's really the thing to do if you miss a game. It was almost like watching it live... almost... yeah...

I was out playing golf Seldini so I didn't get in on the action until later in the game. All I said was "Oh s***, we only have a one run lead?" Fortunately it turned out to be enough.

Goddammit I had a late damn doctor's appointment, then THAT ran late and I come home to find a 1-0 victory. Both sides must have fought hard. I'm assuming Father Curt pitched like a beast? 1 hit game?

Lost a no-hitter with 2 outs in the 9th.

Would have been a perfect game if f***ing Lugo didn't make an error. By making the error he extended the game by one batter...just so happens that the game would have been over if he didn't make it, and Curt would have had his perfect game.

Lugo! That f***!!!!

Well then for being a 1 hit game, Schilling was obviously the man tonight. If I were him though I'd slug Lugo in the face.

Like ORS said, if Lugo doesn't start making an impact, things like this are going to haunt him. He can't be out there f***ing up perfect games for the hero of the '04 playoffs and expect not to be bothered.

Atleast what's his name, the second baseman I think it was in 2001, caught the ball on a leap and secured Hideo Nomo's no-no. God that was a good game. Good times.

Good times Thumper? 2001????? Are you kidding? That season turned into a debacle with Jimy Williams being fired and Joe Kerrigan putting kerosine on a burning edifice. That was my first year as a Red Sox fan and I asked myself what the hell had I gotten into? The only good thing I remember about that year was a game I attended at Anaheim Stadium in early September. I was told I couldn't sit in a certain open section and I got a little mouthy with a security man and he sent for the cops. I had to run like hell to keep from being thrown out of the park.

I returned five innings later in the top of the eighth, and honest injun, the whole section of Red Sox fans I was sitting with gave me a standing ovation. No s***!!!! That's when I knew I was in my right element. The Red Sox ralled from a two run deficit and came back and won the game something like 7-5. Aside from that 2001 sucked for the Sox.

Mike Lansing.

That's the guy! Thanks.

And seabeach, yeah the season was s***, but that one game was probably the best one I had watched. It was Nomo's first start for the Sox and he got a freaking No-No! I have a Hideo Nomo Sox jersey I don't even fit into anymore :(

ANYWAY...tomorrow.

Who gets the rest? Ortiz, Lowell, or Youk? I personally would rather see Youk get the day off with Papi at 1B because I don't think he's gotten a day off in a bit. I'm sure we'll see each one on the bench since there are 3 games...

It sucks because these 3 players happen to be 3 of the teams' best hitters at the moment.

Ortiz will not play the Randy Johnson game.

Ah man I was on the edge of my seat at the end of this game I really thought that Schilling was going to get the no hitter but then that idiot Shannon Stewart just had to break up the no hitter but on the bright side the Sox won the game and gained some more ground on Toronto. Now we got the 8-0 Beckett on the mound tmrw night. Hope he pitches like Schilling did.
