Why does everyone want to give players changing leagues 2 years before calling the player out? Seattle thought gave Beltre 2 years and look where they are at. Gary Sheffield's numbers did not change when he changed leagues. Ivan Rodriguez's number were also pretty close the one year he played in the NL.

When was the last time a 70 million dollar player in his prime was removed late in a close game because the catcher would have given them a better chance to win the game?

I'm giving him 1, not 2. Trust me though...if he continues to suck it up everyone will be calling for his and Theo's head.

But you have to understand that when you have the best record in baseball, guys like Drew and Lugo will fly under the radar.

Lugo, is doing pretty well. Even though he is not hitting for average, he does have over 30 RBIs and he is 17 for 17 on SBs. Drew is either going to make Theo the smartest man in baseball since he is the only person that thought Drew is worth the 11 million the Dodgers were paying him, or he will go down as the guy that gave a guy with a good looking swing that has never done anything 70 million as long as he gives 75% to stay off the DL. Kind of like Depodesta falling in love with Hee Sop Choi and his high OPS even though his swing is about as fast as a retarded kid on Jeopardy.

 Love the Hee Seop Choi reference. But yeah, that guy sucks.

Anyway, that's what I meant. Despite Lugo's low average, he's producing runs for us. And even though Drew's not hitting that well either, he's still getting on base about 25-30ish points above average. I agree with most of the sentiment around Drew though. It was never his talent in question, just his will to be on the field and do what he's capable of.

It was, however, a little disheartening to see him not get up to play for the Yankees series. If you can't suck it up and play the Yankees in the town, then get out. Despite this, I'll still give him time to be the fifth hitter that Theo thinks he can be. Hopefully he's right.

With 2 lefties the next couple of games... its doubtful Drew will start. Where did the talk of him not needing to be sat against lefties go? We might start seeing a Trot Nizon situation if this turns out to be the case

Tito is thinking about moving Drew down in the lineup. From WEEI, according to Sean MacAdamns the Sox should soon see a regular lineup as follws:

vs lefties

Lugo ss

Pedroia 2b

Ortiz dh

Ramirez lf

Youkilis 1b

Lowell 3b

Varitek c

Pena rf

Crisp cf

vs righties

Lugo ss

Pedroia 2b

Ortiz dh

Ramirez lf

Youkilis 1b

Lowell 3b

Drew rf

Varitek c

Crisp cf

I don't understand why Tito wants Youk to be in the 5 spot. Youks strength is getting on base. Lowell's strength so far has been driving in runs and power. I personally like a lineup of

Youkilis

Pedrioa

Ortiz

Ramirez

Lowell

Drew

Vtek

Lugo

Crisp

But anywho, I'm glad to see Pedroia in the top of the lineup.

good to platoon a 14m per outfielder who we penciled in for 25 100 .300??

this will hurt for years to come unless mrs drew finds religion or gets the fear of god placed in his heart physically

maybe lowell youk and tek can get him in a room alone and explain the facts of life as jon lester sits on a throne and passes appropriate judgement on what constitutes pain and injury??

i spend too much time on this subject but i really cant help myself

you see guys like bryan cox come back and play 2 weeksafter smashing their tibia in

guys like brad radke who pitched with a broken arm and a shoulder hanging down to their balls as his career ends...same for curtis leskanic who never pitched after his yeomans work in the 04alcs

you see rodney harrison play an entire 1/2 with a broken arm

you see this lester kid and then guys like damon who have bones sticking out of their feet and still play....

then you have this guy

cant go today coach, got a severe case of bloating and i dont feel very fresh today

I really think JD is fitting in to his usual mold . Hurt Bitchy . Thank god we have best record in mlb . He really needs to get it going .

But you got to admit, there is no way his shoulder will hold up in the final two years of this contract so the Sox will be able to void the last couple of years.

Are you guy getting sick of his half-assed strikeout pose? I wonder how many games he can play if he goes all out? o/u - 68

JD will hit first year in the American League. My only concern is he is always hurt would have given Mioses Alou 1 year before I ever gave Drew a multi-year deal though.

everybody knew it. This is JD Drew. Just in previous yrs he was able to make enough contact and hit enough to make the naysayers few and far between. But I think that shouder injury that they found on the MRI is lurking. If you have a degerated right shoulder, as a lefty, that is your lift hand. If you dont have the right shoulder, you will have trouble with lifting the ball. The back hand supplies the power, the front hand supplies the lift. So instead of him hitting balls with loft or screaming liners, his injury may be ever so slightly causing him to miss the ball just a bit and he's now rolling on everything. This could be temporary because his shoulder was operated on less than 2 yrs ago. But there could be permanent repercussions.

No I think it might have to do with the Kamakazi run into the RF wall. That hit would have bad effets on anyone it happend to. The guy got stronger towards the end of the seaon last year, thats a sign of a recovering shoulder. I think his shoulder is fine, its his lower back that could be an issue. And I'll say it again, if Trot Nixon does the same thing and gos balls out into the wall and lands himself on the DL, most of you would be giving him a hand for his effort. But when Drew does it hes a nancy boy. Bunch of f***ing Hypocrites round here...

Some folks, maybe.

But when FO agreed to pay $70m for this bitch, many were immediately and vocally critical of the deal, because of his history...for those posters, there is nothing hypocritical about commenting now.

Wait, is this a pic of Drew at his last gynecological exam?

OK, anyway, I hope the guy stays healthy and turns things around, it would be a huge lift to the team.

Thats because Nixon would have caught the ball.

I think you, crunch and a few on the other side were VERY critical of this deal from the getgo. And why not. You pay 70 mil, you shouldnt have a ton of baggage. And even at his best, Drew isnt worth that kind of coin. And his best is very few and so far between because of his DL stints / gyno procedures.

Not being Hypocrites for the signing, but them giving Nixon an applause for effort, and on the same play giving Drew s*** for getting himself dinged up.

Yes but hes better then Matthews JR, Peirre. JD is towards the bottom of 1st tier OF, But Matthews and Peirre are second tier guys. You have to pay 1st tier guys more then 2nd tier guys. Such is life and thats how the buisness works.

If JD is 1st tier, then where does that put Manny and Ortiz? There is no way in Hell they are in the same class as JD.

Fine were splitting hairs between bottom of the 1st tier bin and the top of the 2nd. Hes still a better player then the other two and they got ridiculous deals also. It was a bloated market, Damon would have got a 100M deal if he was a FA last yr, thats how insane it was. Hes here, get over it, might as well cheer for the guy and hope he helps the team. What players get payed these days is ridiculous, most contracts are absurd. So I try not to even pay attention to what they make. Just play ball and win some games.

Come on JD. Need to start hitting man .

Come to think of it, Adam, you are right. I hadn't noticed really but he DOES need to start hitting.

I hope he will, don't you?

Matthews is having a great year, he is protecting Vlad and playing great defense.

I think every player should get all they can, but JD's contract takes to to a whole new level. Theo spent 70 million dollars on his man-crush. Even with the market inflation most GMs thought JD could not do better then his current contract with the Dodgers. The only way Theo was going to convince JD to opt out was to make an over the top offer. How many other GMs in the league would have considered offering JD the same contract the Dodgers gave him 2 years prior let along add 15 millions to it.
