Paps strikes out the side... again, 9 Ks in 4.1 innings. 3rd save on the season, now 38 in his career, by season's end he will be in the top 10 in franchise history for saves. Bob Stanley is at top with 125 saves

Ortiz now stands at 236 career dingers, like to see him hit #250 at Fenway

Wakefield has just looked outstanding thus far, 3 ER in 20 innings pitched!

Tomorrow is my birthday and im going to watch tavarez vs Halladay... god are you kidding? lol

 Next year he is going to be the most hated guy in New York. You can bet your bottom dollar he's opting out' date=' getting a monster deal, and saying f*** you to all the Yankee fans like he's wanted to. If I were him, I wouldn't have even give them half of the curtain calls that he did.[/quote']

Normally, you're on the ball, but you dropped it this time. This isn't about the fans, it's about the money. Many players have said that New York is the best place to be when you win/perform well, and the worst place to play when you lose/perform badly. Arod is seeing that now. He leads the league in homeruns, rbi's, and curtain calls.

Listen, he was loved in Seattle and left. He was loved in Texas by the fans and left. I'm supposed to believe that he is leaving New York because he isn't loved?

That and two bucks will get you a ride on the subway.

New York, St. Louis, Boston, Chicago. Great fan bases. It just isn't the same when you win it in Cincinnatti then when you win in New York. Ask Paul O'Neill.

Arod has come out and said that the fans play a major part. ********. He's not going to continue on this pace, but lets say he hits .300 with 50 homeruns. He gets his curtain calls. He gets his "MVP" chants. What more does he want?

Money. He's earned the right to seek a better deal. However, it doesn't make sense to me. I can't see anyone giving him more than the 27 million he will make over the next three years. The total package may be more, and would be more, but not the AAV. Do any of you believe that he will have a higher AAV from the 27 million he will average over the rest of his contract? Why not just wait, and then cash in again in 3 years?

The only thing this guy is missing is a ring. No matter what you feel about your Red Sox, the truth is that the team that gives you the best chance of winning a World Series, year in and year out, is the Yankees. The fact remains that they have made the post-season every single year of the wild card era, you have to figure it's a matter of time. The Angels? Please.

I hope he stays, but if he goes, it's out of my team's hands. Just don't give me the crap about the fans. He had adoration in Seattle, adoration and money in Texas.

My guess? If the Yankees win the World Series, he stays. He sees what it's like to win, realizes he has an excellent chance to do it again. If they don't, he bolts.

From a popularity standpoint, ARod can really do no right at the end of this season if he opts out. If he wins the Yanks a championship, then opts out, he's going to be cursed as being all about the money and not caring about winning. If he doesn't win them a championship, then he opts out, he'll be cursed with not being able to hack it in New York. The only way he's going to get any kind of respect from people is if he is to man up, play well, and stay in NY regardless of the ultimate result of this season. That's not fair.

I always pose this question to people who blame professional athletes for commanding the highest dollar and flying the coup if there's greener financial pastures elsewhere...if there were another company that would pay you 150% of what you're making now for doing the same amount of work, would you go? Of course you would. Well, it's no different in this situation or any free agent situation in sports. These guys are employees and teams are employers...just like you want to be paid the most you can be for the level of work that you do, they're no different. They're dealing with figures that most of us can't even fathom, but just because you and I can't fathom them, doesn't mean they don't have a right to.

We give these guys all kinds of s*** about the money that they make...well, let me tell you, ARod is not overpaid. You have to look at what an EMPLOYEE brings to an ORGANIZATION in terms of revenue in order to determine someone's value. ARod needs to be held up against the Vlad Guerreros and the Albert Pujols' of the world...comparing him to you and I is like comparing apples to oranges.

HOSN, ARod wont leave and make anymore per yr than he will make the next 3 yrs. He is due 27 mil per season the next 3 yrs. Nobody beats that. But what ARod can get is a long term deal as a 32 yr old for something near 20 mil a yr. If ARod doesnt think he can stay healthy up to 34 yrs old and wont command a 15 mil salary, then it isnt fiscally feasible. If he thinks he can stay healthy and can handle NY, then opting out isnt financially feasible.

I hate ARod, but he is a very good player, and thus far having a monster season! I really think that during last season he was considering his options, if he continues to put up the numbers that he has so far this season, whether they win it all or not, he will stay in NY! I don't think he has earned his pinstripes yet, but he is getting pretty close!

Ok, so about tonights starter, Mr. Tavarez. I hope and pray that he has a good game tonight! I mean 9.00 ERA is a little nauseating! Toronto's lineup, though not like the Yankees by any means, is pretty good! Guess we'll see come game time!

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like you thought I did. I meant sticking it to the fans would be a bonus for him.

A-Rod didn't "leave" Texas...he was traded. C'mon, you remember, you gave up Soriano for him (by the way, I shudder to think at the Yankees lineup as it currently is but with Soriano in there instead of Cano, if they were to somehow retain Soriano and obtain A-Rod).

Like you, it doesn't make sense to me either. If money is first and foremost for A-Rod and he opts out, then obviously it's New York and the fans. Who knows? Maybe he realizes he can live off of around $20 million/year instead of $27 million per, and decides to stick it to the fans. You know someone will most likely give him at least 20M/year...

I do love my Red Sox. I'm also not blinded that the Yankees appear on paper to give you the most championships. That's the exact reason why so many people love to hate you. If A-Rod dons a Sox jersey next year, you can damn well expect he'll probably be the most hated guy in the rivarly's history. I mean...at least Johnny Damon didn't opt out to sign with the Yanks...

if it is money he wants, then why leave NY? He knows that if he performs like this until the end of his contract, that the yankees will give him a ridiculous contract well past his prime until he becomes a drag on the team. He will not get paid more anywhere else.

Which is why I said that if he leaves, it is because of the atmosphere.

this is why I dont think he leaves. I mean, examine the economics of it. He will be 32 at the beginning of next season. Lets assume that he signs a 4 yr deal after the current contract expires for Soriano money - 18mil per.

32- 27 mil

33- 27 mil

34- 27 mil

35- 18 mil

36- 18 mil

37- 18 mil

38- 18 mil

That is a total of 153 mil

Now assume he opts out and signs a deal for 7 yrs at 20 mil a pop

That is 140 mil, a net loss of 13 million dollars. So long as he is confident that he can make 15 mil or more per yr for the 4 yrs after his current contract ends, then he will break even. If he thinks he can do better than that, then he shouldnt even leave now. And in NY, if he plays like this for the next 3 yrs, the yankees may just extend him at this current rate.

Do you ever get tired regurgitating the same stuff over and over when it isn't necessary? He's agreeing that if it's only about $$$, then he'll stay in pinstripes. This breakdown does nothing to address why he thinks he might leave.

Ya but with AROD having the season hes having he will command more then Soriano money. Boras said it himself, a player of his caliber has not been valued on this new market, to me that sounds like he will want atleast what he makes now if not more. And with contracts the way they are you know there is some team that will give him 6 or 7 yrs at 25M a season. If thats what he wants boras will get it for him. I mean he got Texas to give 252M when there was no other team involved in the talks...
