Before the game, the announcers in breaking down the pitching said that Pettitte had been giving up a lot less HRs this year 1/17 innings as compared to 1/7 innings last year. Right there I felt that he would give up a couple of bombs, because water eventually finds its own level. When the game started the announcers were whining about the dunk hits saying that Pettitte was not being hit hard. What was happening was that they were hitting his good pitches the other way and they were getting enough of them to get them in for hits. That's called good hitting. When he left the ball in the middle of the plate, they mashed him. Andy sucked today. No excuses.

On another note, I was going to add Cust to my fantasy league team today, but after this weekend one of the Yankee fans that picks before me is bound to pick him up.

Anyone who hasnt picked him up already hasnt been watching baseball enough. I thought it was going to be a one or two week wonder, a la Chris Shelton, but this guy is batting almost .290 and still crushing the ball.

Billy Beane is a master at picking up players under the radar. I think he just had to give up cash considerations or some crap prospect to the Padres for Cust. Kinda like how the Reds picked up Brandon Phillips in ST of last season

The huge anomaly that I've noticed in Pettitte's stats is the HR/FB rate. He's normaly in the 10-12% rate in HRs per Fly Ball. The last time I looked he was at like 4%. That stuff just doesn't magically get good overnight, so there is a correction coming, and today is part of it. Everything else was withing reason of what you'd expect when switching leagues.

ORS, while I agree with your analysis, there is more of a watcher's assessment involved. Pettitte doesnt have the best stuff, obviously, but for the first dozen or so starts, his pitches have been down unless they are out of the zone up by design. Today, the ball was just up the entire time.

so wait. We bring up a brand new reliever. We trail by 6 in the final inning and we f***ing use Proctor? WTF is wrong with this guy. USE EDWAR YOU f***ING MORON.
Torre's not sure that Proctor has been completely burned out yet, and he won't stop going to him every day until his arm falls off. I'm sure he'll justify it by saying that Proctor wants the ball every day. Remember that he used that excuse while he wrecked Quantrill.

Javy Vazquez does not have the testicular fortitude to succeed in NY. He would be a completely useless acquisition.

They're third in runs and are 37-39. Andy Pettitte has a 3.24 ERA and a 4-5 record. They're 5-13 in 1-run games. They don't get hits when it counts, period. Guys like Abreu, Damon, Cano, and Matsui should be driving in these runs, and they're not.

There's no excuse to go 1-7 against Colorado, San Francisco and Baltimore.

I totally agree...Javy Vazquez is not enough of a dirt dog to play in New York.

that wont happen all the time ' date=' he got lucky[/quote']You are right. He probably will not walk the first three batters in an inning for the rest of the year.

it isnt like they are making it up. Mo seems to start poorly evey season nowawadays. Maybe that is how he will age. A longer and longer stint between effectiveness.
