6 in the L column. But this is the kind of game that gets us rolling again believe it or not. We get thumped early, then hold and make a comeback. The bats got hot towards the end, I think we take it to Robertson tomorrow and start a mini winning streak.

Tigs are +0.070 in OPS vs. LHP compared to the Yanks, and all of it is slugging. Pettitte goes today, so I wouldn't count that chicken yet.

Yankees can't keep wasting these opportunities to make up ground (especially freebies like last night) and expect to be playing in October.

Yankees are going through the same cycle as last time. The bats got hot and they cut the division lead and the bats got cold again. I am not that impressed by Pettitte or Mussina since the AS break. They have been winning against teams with weak offences - and they have looked far from dominant. Meanwhile Wang, Clemens and Hughes have shown serious inconsistencies. If they have to use the next line of starting pitchers ( Kirstens, Igawa, Desalvo) - they might as well forfeit the game. I do think that they fixed huge bullpen holes with Joba and Edwar - but Mo has regressed back to April. If the Yankees take the AL east or make the playoffs their bats will have to carry them till October - we will see if they can do that.

Even if the Yankees make the play-offs I will be shocked if the Yankees win any playoff series with this starting rotation.

lmao @ Michael Kay.

"Knowing how sensitive Gary is, this will bother him." (in reference to the boos he gets at Yankee Stadium)

If there's one thing you should have learned about Sheffield, it's that he plays a lot better when he's got a chip on his shoulder, you f***ing idiot.

Pettite since All-Star break:

5-1 3.15 ERA

There hasn't been a dominant pitcher in the second half for either of our teams. Right now, our rotation is in as good a shape as yours. Sorry, but I take Wang, Pettitte, Clemens, Mussina, and Hughes over Beckett, Matsuzaka, Schilling, Wakefield and Tavarez. With Chamberlain added to the pen and Gagne in yours, the pen is pretty much a wash. The way we are hitting, our bench is better than your lineup.

5 games is a lot to make up in this short a time, but if we catch you, or get in the playoffs and meet....you are finished. Most Red Sox fans here will agree with me, I believe. I think the biggest threat to you guys making the World Series is not the Tigers, Guardians, Mariners or Angels. It's us, and you know it.

Go back to sleep.

Agreed.

If we are the biggest threat to the sox then we are also the biggest threat to ourselves. As solid as this team has shown it can play, they also can get into funks where uncharacteristic errors are made and then just go ice cold with the bats while not pitching all that well either. When we are running at full steam, nobody is better than us. But that instance has been hit or miss this season.

Beckett 3-3, 2.58 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 9.1 K/9, over 6 K/BB

Dominant.

Wake the f*** up.

whoa, been kinda watching and sleeping right now. Clemens looked dominant at times, then left a few up. He escaped well. We waited out Durbin and got him when he tired. Mariano for the 9th, lets see how he rebounds.

Wang doesn't have his best sinker, but so far, it's been good enough. Yanks up 1-0 going into the bottom of the second.

He hasn't had his best sinker in a long time. It's been extremely inconsistent the entire season, and it's been bad since the ASB.

Wang has pitched like a bottom of the rotation guy since the ASB.

Bad situational hitting by Matsui.

EDIT: That's nine hits already against Wang. I thought his name was supposed to be mentioned amongst the elite pitchers in the AL...
