This banal response is non responsive. Why would our owners offer him anything if we had better pitchers in the organization to take the 5th slot? Stupidity? Sentimentality? What?

At the time of the deal, Roger Clemens looked like he was a better pitcher than Tavarez or Buchholz. Was he worth $28 million? No, but he looked like a good option at $12 million. I didn't expect him to be this bad. I had him down for a 3.80 - 4.20 ERA range. After watching him pitch these last two months, he looks like he's destined to finish with a 4.80 -5.20 ERA.

I guess the FO got lucky. Again.

He had just came off of a 2.30 ERA season for the Astros, and he looked like he was able to ward off Father Time. Even if you adjust for pitching in the AL, and a little bit of age related decline, he still would be a pretty good pitcher.

Then we saw his 87 mph fastball.

That was one game, and even on a bad day he pitched as well as JT does on a good day.

Okay, now we are getting somewhere. So, are you saying that regardless of price Clemens is not better than Hansack, gabbard, Tavarez, Lester or Bucholz? If so, you are entitle to your opinion, but i disagree.

I don't know about that.

He struggled badly against Colorado, and Baltimore, looked OK against a ghastly Pittsburgh offense, and good against an OK Mets offense.

He still was throwing 87-89 mph, with a 90 mph once in awhile.

Tavarez has had a 3.60 ERA for the last two months.

If you'd rather have Tavarez in a matchup between Clemens and Tavarez, I'll take Clemens, but remember their wallets don't figure into the outcome.

I'll go +/-105 depending on where the teams are playing.

I'd take it, but I hate to root against my own money. Take the last word on this because i need some sleep.:D

I do too, I'm out.

These arguments may get heated, but they are very entertaining.

tavarez is our 5th starter , why the f*** would you pay someone 10 times his price who cant even put up better numbers? i like it when you compare the rocket with lester, bucholz and hansack , THERE IN THE f***ING MINORS , does triple A need pitching or something that we need the rocket?.. when schilling comes back we have this

1. beckett

2. dice K

3. schilling

4.wake

5.tavarez

do you see any room for the rocket there ? i dont . stop f***ing bringing up minor league pitcher that are not even in the rotation ..hansack pitched once, gabbard is just replacing schilling til he comes back..lester hasent even been in the bigs this year and neither has bucholz. so why the f*** do you keep compairing the rocket to these minor leaguers? oh i know why cause those are the only one that he's better than.. how about comparing him to the 5 above? schilling is a big ? but id rather take my chances with him

None of this even remotely addresses the question of whether Clemens is a better pitcher than our current #5 and his potential replacements.Getting Clemens is no longer an option. He's on the Yankees, so why are you discussing whether there is room for him in our rotation? I thought we were making progress.

I am glad that you laugh when I compare Clemens to minor leaguers like Bucholz. I laugh when people write that minor leaguers like Bucholz are better than Clemens.

clem is perhaps the best pitcher in history between april and august

you gotta figure hes going to boost any team that gets him despite how you feel personally about him or his nat league central #S

come fall strange s*** happens to him and even the odds makers get it

in 04 game 7 against jeff fkn suppan he was a 140/130 dog

granted the stros werent as good but as anyone whos ever bet a baseball game knows

its all on the pitcher and raja was the cats ass all those years he was in texas pitching his ass of against the brewers and pirates

this year his starts have been against nl clubs with the exception of this week

the pirates

the rox

at the time the reeling mets

the mets are a good club but werent when clem saw them

anyways

he missed his shot in the fens when his ""groin"" acted up in trenton as he prepped for the big boy show

that was his time to take the yanks on his back and become the rocket for the flailing yanks

but

torre knows what raja does with the world on his back and he didnt want this experiment to end as have so many of clemens huge starts in the fens ended, especially so early in the summer with plenty of time to get back in the race...

torre had the vision of him holding an ice pack on his ass crotch or shoulder after 6 earned in 2 1/3 and the yanks having to deal from behind with their savior in the tub

before the show was under way he was quietly being questioned from everyone in nyc

from the nerd mike lupica to little joel sherman to george""pitchers need not apply"" king to everymans hero mike vaccaro...

where was clem and why isnt he in boston this weekend??

theres still 3 months of baseball left and raja is fresher than all of the league

but is still 45 and is up against 9 hitters a nite and a more competetive field of teams

nobody is easy, all 9 men swing

he took the coin and made his prince valiant announcement to that sunday crowd as if he were napolean or caesar back from the dead to save the peasnts

but the reality is he hasnt earned his keep and the yanks have yet to respond for him offensively, his deal was special in a clubhouse full of special cases

its failed so far but we havent seen the end of him yet

Vazquez - 98 IP 86 H 43 ER 26 BB 93 K's 3.95 ERA

Salary - $11 million

The team is 3rd in RS this year.

Javy Vazquez does not have the testicular fortitude to succeed in NY. He would be a completely useless acquisition.

They're third in runs and are 37-39. Andy Pettitte has a 3.24 ERA and a 4-5 record. They're 5-13 in 1-run games. They don't get hits when it counts, period. Guys like Abreu, Damon, Cano, and Matsui should be driving in these runs, and they're not.

There's no excuse to go 1-7 against Colorado, San Francisco and Baltimore.

Or it could have had something to do with the fact that he was clearly battling arm problems in the second half of the season. Take a look at his first half, then tell me whether or not he can succeed in New York.

The veneer of good that Iguana has been demonstrating will wear off in due time.

Back to back.

Just like the start against San Francisco Igawa shows some positive signs, but he doesn't seem to be able to put together a good start in terms of how many runs he gives up.

However, Kei Igawa is not the story of this game through the four and a half innings. The Yankees offense has, in my opinion, been the number one problem throughout the entire season. No matter how many runs they've scored total, they are so inconsistent.

Abreu looks like the player that Mets fans told me he was. They said he looked finished with the Phillies. They miss Giambi who got on base at a high rate, made pitchers work and was a power threat. They also miss Sheffield... big time. Thank you Brian Cashman for not extending him.

Matsui and Cano might be able to get you something really good on the open market...in all seriousness, Cano is exactly what the Yankees used to avoid, guys that swing at everything. And Matsui, for whatever reason (could be his wrist), has taken a big step back this year. I playoff contender would probably jump at the chance to get him for a year and a half.
