Yeah, Felix was unhittable tonight. Good start for Dice-K - any other night this is a win or close.

The Sox are flat out lucky it wasn't a no-hitter - two hits that came close and one that was a hit? I am officially scared to death of King Felix.

Fortunately he will pass in the night.

I'm seeing a trend. If Gom thinks the Sox will win 86' date=' that means they lose 76. So, with the current trend, Gom will post in 76 Sox game threads.[/quote']

You may be onto something. :)

I will primarily post when Beckett and Schilling lose. Mainly because your season rests on their shoulders. If they don't win a combined 30-35 games, you're done for.

Well, they've lost 4 thus far, and without looking it up I'd hazard to guess you are 4 for 4. Not surprising a guy like you gets petty kicks.

ORS, I wont fair weather ya. I am here win or lose, so long as I am not on the road. But I still love having a few other Yankee brethren on here. Gom is a fun one.

Better hope that isn't combined.

Wang will be back in 2 weeks. I see Moose being out for 4 weeks. These guys have hammy issues, relatively minor. The guy I worry about is Karstens. Anytime someone says elbow pain, you get my attention.

Who is he and why are we talking about him?

I kid.

I expected it would be an arm problem from over use in a contract year, but he will hit the DL nonetheless well before I predicted.

I think I agreed with you. He avoided the DL until 04, and since then he has made a trip there each season.

Do you believe that Tito will bench Drew not Crisp tomorrow to get WMP some playing time? I don't care what Crisp's career numbers are against Washburn. Drew is your only hot hitter and Crisp is stone cold. You never sit your hot hitter. What an idiot.

Im pretty pissed about King Felix stealing Dice-K's thunder - i would have loved to see a no-no from him any other day; but prefebly not against the sox. O well, 1-hitter is something to be proud of. We need to bounce back and win the series tomorrow.

Hernandez for Cy Young? I think he'll Dethrone Santana

Yeah, certainly in 6 years. When Hernandez is 27 and Santana is 34. At that point Hernandez wil be just ENTERING his pitching prime (in theory, at least).

Jesus, what potential.

What a game. s*** was mad intense before the first pitch. The flash bulbs were unreal. As for the game, Felix Hernandez was nasty. He worked fast, and there weren't too many hard hit balls. He owned us tonight. Matsuzaka was rocky throughout; he never really had an easy going. Felix Hernandez is/is going to be a real fun pitcher to watch in the future. Almost saw a no-no tonight.

huh?

I'm allowed to like a player better, am I not? As much as I like Felix I have grown attached to Dice-K already. I like it that he's entirely healthy. I like it that he's already poised and experienced. And I like it that he's a Red Sox for 6 seasons.

I love Felix too, but given that this is a hypothetical discussion about a trade that would never happen, I made my opinion known based on opinion and subjectivity... kind of like the root of the question.

EDIT: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's pitcher

EDIT: Would "nah, I like Dice-K better" have been acceptable if he had outpitched Felix tonight? I have no doubt in my mind that he can, given Felix's history of control problems and the inevitability of a bad day.

Felix will be twice the pitcher Dice K will be. Well, seeing as Felix is 6 yrs younger and his huge frame will likely allow him to pitch a few more yrs into his late 30s, early 40s, I'd assume that on workload alone. Dice K is a nice pitcher. Very fun, good stuff, good location. Felix is on another planet right now.

What the hell does twice the pitcher mean? I mean, seriously? Whereas dice K could win 18 games Felix could win 36? If Dice gets a 2.80 ERA Felix will have a 1.4? I don't get what you're saying.

I certainly would say that Felix has more tools and the frame to be the best pitcher in a long, long time.

I think you're underestimating DiceK's stamina a little bit. Size doesn't matter as much as mechanics and conditioning. I see no concerns for Felix at this point.

There is also a whole lot to be said for poise and the ability to pitch, instead of throw. Again, Felix seems to have it all right now but Dice is known as a big game pitcher and has proven it time and time again.

I assume (and not in a passive-aggressive way) that you would happily trade Phil Hughes for Felix at this point, right? It makes sense that you would.

He is the only pitcher I would trade him for, and I wouldnt even come close to thinking twice.

There's not a player in the minors (and that's in any system, not just ours) that I wouldn't trade for King Felix at this point. This game wasn't a flash in the pan...this is what everyone has always said he could do. I'm watching it thinking "I can't believe this filthy sonofabitch is over 2 years younger than me. Poor AL West."

I haven't seen dominance like these 2 starts in quite some time...actually, I don't think ever. Is he going to be as good as he was tonight everynight? Of course not...but this is definitley a sign of things to come.

Hats off to DiceK...he pitched a good game. With the Sox lineup (insert notorious "on paper..." comment here), giving up 3 runs in a game should put you in line for a win no doubt.

I ended up having to go into work so I watched pretty much the whole game, but didn't have the benefit of having the sound on. How was the ovation in Boston for Felix when the game ended? I would have been on my feet had I been there...you've got to be.

Before we vote him into the HOF or to the All Star team he has to achieve consistency. That is the hallmark of the major leaguer that distinguishes him from the talented minor leaguer, no matter how exceptional the talent. I watched him last year in a couple of games where he was outstanding, but he finished the year with a 4.5 ERA and a sub .500 record. As good as the kid was tonight, he struck out only 6. He's still learning. Pedro was n't that consistent until he hit 25. After that, when he dominated a team, there was very little contact. Double digit k's became the rule, not the exception. This kid definitely has the has the potential to get to that level. He's a rare talent.

I think the fact that he only struck out six speaks volumes to what he can do. Last yr he got into trouble going for the K. By pitching to semi-contact tonight, he lasted all 9 innings and was still unhittable. I'd take a CG 6K performance over a 7IP 14K performance any day of the week.
