your offense was awful last yr compared to previous.

Number 2 in runs scored to the White Sox on August 1st, which was right around the time the injury bug hit. Regardless of how they compared to previous years, it was still one of the top offenses prior to the injuries.

And August 1, 2006 was doomsday, the day Varitek went on the DL.

relative to others was never how the sox operated. The sox were far and away above the competition previously if I remember correctly.

What point are you trying to make? I said they had a very good offense. It was very good. Find where I called it historically good, and I'll concede you have something to talk about. Try and keep up, Jacko.

Does that make their offense from last year not good? That seems to be your point, and if it isn't I don't know why you bothered chiming in. Not historically good does not mean not good.

Jacko, are you serious? The man said they were 2nd in the league in runs scored. That, to me dictates a pretty good offense.

You are right. I meant that their offense was not up to their previous standards. That is all.

The bottom part of the Red Sox lineup is nothing to squawk about this year either.

No, but it'll still be a tough lineup, no doubt.

As for Julio, he's obviously got talent, throws the ball hard, and is still pretty young; however he has been unable to piece it all together, and like previously stated, there is no way he'll be able to put it all together in Boston. He couldn't get it done the last time he was in the AL East, there's no way he'll be able to in the Boston environment.

the sox 1-6 will grind pitchers. Their 7-9 will be a nice break from hard ABs.

With the exception of Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo what Sox hitters don't have the ability to work counts?

Pedroia is still green and Varitek is an easy out these days.

Pedroia's track record gives me confidence for him though, but i guess I can give you varitek.

You jump to conclusions far too quickly.

Does Jacko work for Initech?

I think Varitek while I know he is declining, I still think he can hit 260.-270 and hit 15-18 HRs. Let's remember that he did hit 12 Homers and drive in 54 runs even after missing 6 weeks of action. I know he only hit .238, however I think he will rebound at least a little.

Pedroia even when he was promoted to the majors and trying to adjust, made the pitchers work. I remember some games where he'd average 5 pitches or more each AB. Also like Lorette, Pedroia is hard to strike out

The best thing to happen to the Yankees this offseason is if the Red Sox get Jorge Julio. He's like throwing napalm on a camp fire.

ST moves including Jorge Julio trade, courtesy of rotoworld

Marlins acquired RHP Jorge Julio and cash from the Diamondbacks for RHP Yusmeiro Petit.

We can't imagine the Marlins wanted Julio unless it was to close. He can't be trusted to come into games with men on base, so the ninth inning is the best situation for him. Still, he won't be any sort of lock to close all year long. With ERAs of 4.57, 5.90 and 4.23 the last three years, Julio has pretty firmly established himself as a below average reliever. He'll probably have a couple of good months for the Marlins, but when all is said and done, the team could realize it would have been better off without him.

Diamondbacks acquired RHP Yusmeiro Petit from the Marlins for RHP Jorge Julio and cash.

The Diamondbacks did pretty well here if they managed to dump most of Julio's $3.6 million salary, but as a flyball pitcher, Petit had a better chance of making it as a fourth or fifth starter in Florida than he does in Arizona. He'll almost certainly begin the season in Triple-A Tucson's rotation.

Rangers claimed RHP Ezequiel Astacio off waivers from the Astros.

Astacio made a case for a bullpen spot by allowing just two earned runs and four hits in eight innings. It wasn't a bad idea for the Rangers to claim him, but he's another flyball pitcher in a ballpark that rewards sinkerballers. He would have had a better chance of contributing if he had remained in the NL.

Dodgers acquired outfielder Brady Clark and cash from the Brewers for RHP Elmer Dessens.

A nice pickup for the Dodgers. We're assuming the cash will allow the two teams to split the difference in salary between what Clark ($3.8 million) and Dessens ($1.7 million) were due to make. Clark is the right-handed-hitting fourth outfielder the Dodgers needed with Jason Repko out. He's just a $1 player in NL-only leagues with the Dodgers likely to bypass him in favor of Matt Kemp or James Loney if they ever need a regular.

Brewers acquired RHP Elmer Dessens from the Dodgers for outfielder Brady Clark and cash.

The Brewers had no further use for Clark with Kevin Mench as a fourth outfielder and Gabe Gross, Laynce Nix and Tony Gwynn Jr. also available. Dessens is coming off a down year in which he had a 4.56 ERA, but he's a perfectly adequate middle reliever. It's doubtful that he'll have any fantasy value at all.

Whoops, didn't see this one. Mods can delete my thread or merge it with this one.

So Julio is going to be the Marlins closer...better than Tankersley or any of the other choices I suppose.

So how has Jorge Julio looked since being acquired by Arizona to be Florida's closer?

Regardless of the results, if he can do this, he's special.
