Torri Hunter may patrol CF for Boston in 2008

If they do anything, they better keep Manny. Manny is too good of a hitter (and clutch) to replace with a Jones, Hunter, or Ichiro. I'd love to see Manny in LF, Jones or Ichiro in CF, and Drew in RF. By the time Ellsbury is ready, either Manny will be done with his contract, or JD would have been traded (cause he sucks) and they could move their aging CF to a corner and put Ellsbury in CF.

 

I'm not worried about keeping a spot for Ellsbury. I'll ask you this. Would have rather have a stacked OF in 08 and maybe have to make moves to fit in Ellsbury in the future, or deal with a thin or less talented OF that is just waiting for Ellsbury. I sure would want the first scenario.

As of right now I really dont think the Sox will be big buyers in the center field market. Ellsbury has got that talent you dont want to be kept in Triple A for 2+ years. Buster Olney has these very early predictions

I agree, I wouldn't spend the money on those guys when the player in AAA costs a fraction of the salary those players will demand and will produce at a high level. I still believe Ellsbury will see the All Star game a few times in his career.

Jones is way too much of a free swinger. Almost like a slightly disciplined WMP. As far as Hunter goes i wouldnt mind if he is healthy. But i think he may go to Atlanta or something and Jones goes to a team with a lotta $

I'd still go with Ellsbury in CF and try and get another pitcher.Jones has looked pretty bad as of lately. What 5 strikeouts in a game here.Hunter is coming on strong but I think we won't give him the kind of money that he will want.

I'd take Torii Hunter on a short term deal but he's at the point of his career that he's going to want 4 or 5 years and I just don't think that's a good idea. He's a very good defensive player but at 32 he's on the decline and speed is the first thing to go.

 

Personally, I don't see Ellsbury as much of a downgrade from what Coco Crisp is doing right now, and the Red Sox are still a competitive team. I'd use the money Jones/Hunter/Ichiro would command and spend it other places.

I agree with this, another arm in the bullpen could not hurt at all. Although I would love to see Ichiro come and play center and Boston is definitley high on his list. I've kept saying givo Coco time but his time is up. And we can not get ride of Manny. Why mess with such a huge part of the chemistry of this team? I'd keep Ellsbury in AAA if we cant get Ichiro. Then I would love to try and move him to right but we have Drew there for the next 5 damn years.
