That's the problem being a Red Sox fan 700 Hitter; you are constantly riding that damn elevator from the penthouse to the outhouse. I have tried to weight all the pros and cons, though, and to me I think our team has the means to have a great year and, much to our friend Jackson's chagrin, take the AL East this year for a change, but the black hole is still the bullpen. I think we need two or three guys to start separating themselvess from the rest and give us something to really believe that this is our year.

Ya know, although I have been against it to this point, I have to think that if the sox don't figure out someone who can consistently close the door I would be in favor of trading one of the younger pitching 'specs. With Lester, matsuzaka, Papelbon and Beckett we're looking at the rotation for possibly 5 years. With Bowden, Buchholz and Bard coming up there is a logjam--which isn't an issue but it is possible that a shut down reliever would put this team over the top for that same 5 year period (or a few years at least).

I largely agree with ORS and others here who say the 'pen is full of adequate relievers who can get outs. What they lack is ANYONE who is noticably hard to hit. Which of these guys can have even a low 1.2ish WHIP? 1.3? A pitcher who is career-average Timlin would do this pen a lot of good. A Foulke/Wettland/Papelbon type could start a dynasty.

I think you are getting ahead of yourself. Two of the guys have never started in the majors over the course of a full season' date=' so there is hope but no track record by which to judge. Beckett had a disappointing year last year, and while we are hoping he will turn himself around, we just don't know. Schilling is 40 and trying new pitches, and the knuckleballer is always a crap shoot. There are a number of "ifs" in this rotation. Going into the season, Detroit has a much more accomplished and reliable starting staff. They also have a strong pen and Boston's pen is very weak. Don't set yourself up for a big disappointment. Also, the IF is weaker this season from a defensive perspective, and it is about the same as it was last year offensively. The FO still has a lot of work to do to make this into a team built for October.[/quote']

:what: Read my post carefully when you respond, I never did say best in baseball or even the entire AL

Im not trying to get far too head of myself before the season, right now tho I will say they have best starting staff (on paper) in the AL East.

Just heard a great dicek story on WEEI. Tito told dicek that he was to go up to the plate and leave the bat on his shoulder and then come back to the dugout when finished. Well he went up and went down 0-2, and then got 4 strait balls.....after ball 4 instead of going to 1st he heads back to the dugout. Tito tells him it's ok to go to first now, so he does and Hinski hits a 3 run dingerB)

That's swell MTB but would you please tell me how the hell I can get the game. I try the TV--no luck. I try GameDay Radio---no luck. What gives? I can't get the game even on the Dodger station. Has the game been called or something? I need some information badly.

Thanks RSR; I had a feeling the game might have been held up but I saw no scores posted on the bottom of the ESPN channels so I was in the dark. At least we won't have to worry about our Dodger friends coming on and teasing the hell out of us. Damn, though, it would have been great to finish the game and take care of them so I could at least beard some of my Dodger neighbors on my block out here.

BTW, are you the guy who is going down to Fort Myers next week? I know VASox fan will be there but I was sure someone else from this board was flying down as well. I thought it was One Red Seat but he said no. That's what I get for using the delete post option every day.

Damn Fred, as much as you're (and a lot of US are) on the computer. All ya have to do is pull up MLB.com or ESPN.com and you can see the status of any game. I knew the Sox were rained out at about 2-3pm (ET) today.

FYI, sir.....

Well thank you very much my dear; that was very white of you. I tried numerous times on the MLB Red Sox Board.....No luck. I tried watching the two ESPN stations with their scores on the bottom of the screen.......No luck. Now if I would have gone to the sources you went do I would have found it, but since you are so much smarter than I am I needed you to save my bacon. I am indebted to you and I will treat you to an ice cream bar when we run into each other in a couple of weeks. You do like ice cream, don't you?

This post got real creepy real quick.

Everybody likes ice cream.

I just gave it up for Lent, two weeks late but still a month of having to forego something that I usually crave. Thankss for setting everyone straight Coco. I could have offered to treat VASox to a beer but to offer a lady something like that sounded tacky to me. But if he wants a brewski, it is still on me.

On to another less creepy matter. In the LA Papers this morning it said how Pena, Varitek and Hinske all connected for booming homers, none of them cheapies. I know Jason was in a slump so that was good news, Pena for breaking out of a mild spring slump, and Hinske for doing something besides hearing from Francona what a great guy he is to have on the team. I guess I'm one of the rare fans who think that what transpires in the Grapefruit League DOES bear a relationship to what could happen during the regular season, rainout or not it was good to see three of our guys take the Dodger pitcher deep.

No SuperZIT I haven't. I'll keep my sweet tooth as long as your girlfriend keeps doing odd-jobs for me around my house. Thanks for sharing her.

Haha I banned people!

Thank you yeszir. I thought those people were gone before. They have come on two other boards, one a Red Sox and one a Yankee and got thrown off there as well. They seem to pop up a lot of places. I hear they even have gone on Phillies and Cubs boards. If they talked baseball it would be fine but that's not their intent, sorry to say.

Now, what do we do for a closer?? And who do we trade to get some bullpen help?:D :D :D :D

Did you guys catch Dice-K's act yesterday? Looks like he will be killing leftys all year with that picth that starts in and breaks away from the hitter. Dude looks sick, and I think he is still holding back until the season starts.

another picture of fred as an avatar. Is it ban o'clock?

Jackson, I've gotten to the point that I don't even mind. He did come out with a decent post and maybe one of us can convert him to either one of our teams. I don't think he believes you can root for a team in each league as long as you have one definite favorite, but as long as Metro puts decent posts I personally don't care if he stays here. You only ban someone if they are really nasty and evil.

Hes been around a while' date=' he has a very subtle way of starting s***.[/quote']

I think this time he will not do anything of the kind. If he posts decent threads he should be allowed to stay on with the rest of us. Besides, I'm on a Dodger Board and the guy knows a lot about his team. He can help keep me better informed, like what the hell happened to Rafael Furcal today.
